Hi all,

the following cameras cannot be powered on using the power button with CHDK installed on a bootable SD card. Using the play button to power the camera on works fine and pressing the shutter button to get into shooting mode also works fine.

SD870 my FW is: 1.00C (FIXED)
IXUS 960 my FW is: 1.00D (FIXED)
IXUS 970 IS with FW 1.00D (FIXED)
SX20 my FW is: 1.00F (FIXED)

UPDATE 2014-07-22:
Moved the VxWorks OS cameras that have this problem here (probably won't fix candidates)
A550 with FW 1.00C
A560 my FW is: 1.00A
IXUS 75 with FW 1.01B

UPDATE 2014-08-13:
IXUS 200 FW 101C also gives me trouble with the power button

I recall that I saw this behavior on one newer camera and thought it was some glitch but don't recall which camera. I know that I no longer have access to that camera though. I can narrow it down to a list of perhaps 20 models... If I had to guess I think I'd guess IXUS 115 or A2300 so it might be one of those two.

Koshy had a little ELPH which wasn't white as snow but everywhere that Koshy went the ELPH was sure to go. (actually an SD, but that detail ruins the rhyme...)

So when you press the On/Off power button, nothing happens at all?

Do you know if this is something new or always been the case with all versions of CHDK ?  (which I would expect as its likely an issue with boot.c)

And what is when you hold the power button longer than one second? I know, that the SX20 works fine.

Yes exactly. Nothing at all. As if the camera had no battery.

And what is when you hold the power button longer than one second?
I have all four cameras on my desk right now and I held the power on buttons depressed for 5 seconds on each which did nothing. I then retried with the play buttons which was fine.

I can't say if this has always been this way but I can say that with the A560 I tried both the current trunk auto build and the latest version CHDK 1.2 stable build before I realized that this was about the button.

I know, that the SX20 works fine.
Good, but unless the power button is actually broken on mine (which I ascertained it is not by using an SD card without CHDK) our cameras seem to act differently. Could it be different FW versions?

Confirmed.  The SX20is version for firmware 1.00f does not have the code to correctly power on using the On/Off button.  The code for the 1.02b and 1.02d firmware versions does.   So I'm betting your sx20 has f/w 1.00f ?

Yes, as I put in the initial post ("my FW is: 1.00F") that is the case.
Good, so this is a useful bug report. I had hoped so.

Are you willing to test if somebody decides to fix these issues?

@WW
Is your a560 affected by this?

Yes.  But it's got the really old boot code so I never bothered to update and fix it.

Yes but I should add that I don't intend to hold onto all of the cameras I'm currently working with. Like I said I think there is one other I no longer have access to already. If I have the camera I will test whatever fix anyone comes up with. If it happens within a week or three I will have the cameras I mentioned. Boyond that we'll just have to see.

Did anyone pick one of these as an item to work on? If so I can hold onto the cameras or a while.
If not I have what I need from them.
