Hi. Bit the bullett this weekend and bought a beautiful Canon G7 with the intention of using it for time lapse photography. For some reason I cannot get the firmware update option to show in the menu under Transition after I have loaded all of the software on the SD card. The option just doesn´t show up. I´ve got a Mac running Maverics as the machine I´m working on. Also, I couldn´t find any standard SD cards so I only have SDHC 16GB+. I´ve found the correct firmware 1.00i and everything else seems to work on the camera. No idea what is going wrong. Kind of freaking out because I´m leaving for the mountains on Monday and was planning on taking the cam with me. Any ideas? HELP!!!

Full and correct instructions for installing CHDK are here :  http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Prepare_your_SD_card

In your case,  you need to start the camera using the playback button - not the On/Off button.  And the PS.FIR file needs to be in the root of the SD card.

There are also some "tricks" that sometimes need to be observed when using a Mac : http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ/Mac#Still_Having_Trouble.3F

I'd advise using STICK to format and install CHDK on the card if you want to set it up for autobooting.  Be aware that the G7 will need to use a dual partition layout with any SD card larger than 4G.  STICK will take care of setting that up for you.

Hey, thanks for the tip. I knew about the other stuff, just had to format the card using the STICK program. Worked like a charm. Just finished a quick 10 shot timelapse of the sunset that looks better than I expected. Can´t wait to try this up in the mountains.

As you are now using a dual partition card, this might come in handy :  WASP if you end up on a Windows machine while travelling.
