No Script HDR & Focus Bracketing?

Would appreciate comments concerning "One more bonus: Using the camera's Custom Self-Timer's counted shots with CHDK's Continuous Bracketing you don't even need a script to take single-event HDR or Focus Bracketing shots. You can manually initiate a counted bracketing sequence this way with each shutter press. No need to even run a script, the camera + CHDK will do it all for you. The flexibility of knowing this method becomes limitless."

Seems like it would be ideal for a nontech like me?

Just wished there would be more info how to do it?

Thanks

Gene

This refers to the bracketing in continuous mode feature http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK_User_Manual#Bracketing_in_Continuous_Mode

So you can choose your bracketing settings in the CHDK menu, and set your camera to custom timer mode with a delay of 0 and some number of shots in the Canon menu. When you press the shutter it should take bracketed shots.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

To elaborate a bit (as you did ask me for more details in a PM before I pointed you here) :

  • Practice a bit setting up the Canon timer function. Follow the instructions on page 40  of the manual for your camera ( link ) where it explains about Customizing the Self-Timer.  Set the delay to 0 and shots to 3.  You will need to be in shooting mode to access that menu.
  • Press the shutter and see what happens.  If you've set it up correctly it should take 3 pictures in quick succession.
  • Try changing the shot count to 2 or 5 and observe what happens when you shoot.
  • Now go to CHDK <ALT> mode and the CHDK menus : Enhanced Photo Operations -> Bracketing in Continuous Mode.
  • Set Tv Bracketing [ 2 Ev ]
  • Exit the CHDK Menus and then exit CHDK <ALT> mode back to normal Canon mode
  • Press the shutter button again and let it take three more photos
  • If you look at the three photos, the exposure should be different in all three
  • Following the same process, you can also have CHDK change the focus or ISO settings for each photo

Further to my previous post,  if you really want to make this user friendly then add the Focus Bracketing override menu items to the CHDK User Menu and have it be the first thing that opens when you press the <ALT> key.  For example, this is what I currently see immediately upon pressing the <ALT> key on my A1200 :

That lets me immediately adjust my bracketing settings without having to open the main CHDK menu and navigate all the way  through to the sub-sub menu.

Details on how to do all of this are here :  User Menu   Make sure to read the part where it descibes On Direct mode

waterwingz,

Followed your detailed instructions and everything worked.

"3. Try changing the shot count to 2 or 5 and observe what happens when you shoot." Changed to 5 and got
5 pictures in quick succession.  Did not notice anything different from previous 3 pictures except for 2 more pictures.  Am I missing something?

Thanks again for the detailed instructions!

You are not missing anything.

Asking you to change 3 to 5 was to give you practice at setting up that feature in the Canon menu. As you started this thread with this request,

I tried to make it as foolproof as possible.
