FWIW,  that sounds like normal Canon P&S camera behavior when a USB connection to your PC is active.  Which I think makes sense given how you have described the docking station's function.
Maybe I wasn't clear enough. I had the "Remote" feature enabled when trying to get the camera into shooting mode. Shouldn't that make the USB connection to a PC impossible?

As soon as I put the cam into the station it shuts off. Once I turn it back on in there it stays in play mode.
Koshy had a little ELPH which wasn't white as snow but everywhere that Koshy went the ELPH was sure to go. (actually an SD, but that detail ruins the rhyme...)

It should if the right bit in the mmio stuff is masked out correctly.  Which is what nafraf was trying to do - are you using the version he made the changes to ?

Can you use chdkptp to go into shooting mode?

No not yet. I had the initial one and he'll post another later I assume. I hope I found the right values.

I'll try the chdkptp.

Well then that explains it.

Meanwhile, be careful not to fill up the 16M card the camera comes with :

Right. I picked up several of those in their original shrink wrap in the course of this. Also the later giant 32 cards.
I have 40something cards ranging from 256MB to 32GB all partioned to be 2GB max and Fat16 formated and made bootable. Now the oldest of the cams only take the actual 2GB and smaller cards and not even the 4GB ones but I have enough to have all I need operational at the same time.

Interestingly having remote active prevented the PC connection for chdkptp so I turned remote off. Well, maybe it was something else.
I could connect after installing the driver, could switch to rec mode, could see the live view but the user buttons to shoot failed.

JPEG said "ERROR: unsupported format"

DNG made the camera shoot but then:

Ixus izoom with modified USB_MASK.

Capture mode map table is wrong. To fix that, please tell me the value of property 0 for each capture mode.
CHDK Menu -> Miscellaneous Stuff -> Debug Parameters ->
Debug data Disaply [ Props ]
Propbase/ParamData Page [ 0 ]
Show Misc. Values [  ]

Then use Canon menu to select each capture mode, and create a table: Capture Mode -> Property 0 Value

Long exposure time capture gives me trouble to set up. There is no Disp Button and no zoom lever (that is up arrow down arrow). Consequently I could not figure out how to set more than 00:00:59.
You can half-press the shutter button to move the highlight around.

Thank you.

00:01:31 exposure worked just fine - knowing how to set it up.

Auto 5

Macro 2

Landscape 6
Night Snapshot 13
My Colors 3
Kids&Pets 14
Indoor 12
Foliage 8
Snow 9
Beach 10

Makes one wonder what the 4 is - I didn't find it. There are 14 settings on the menu.
