HELP ME please! Ixus 240 HS

Hi,
(sorry for my bad english)
I bought a Canon ixus 240 hs after seeing that there was the possibility of shooting timelapse with chdk.
I thought it would be easy (such as magic lantern), but is about 24 hours that I try, but nothing... I can't understand what I have to do. And I'm leaving for holidays tomorrow :'(

The biggest problem is that with the touch screen I don't understand in which way I can get the access to the chdk menu.

But let's start from the beginning... I'm going to explain the steps that I've followed:

- I downloaded Stick. I uploaded my photo and it recognized the camera 240 hs and the firmware version 101a, but it says "No official build is available for this camera". Why?  :(

- I've seen that on the "download page" is available the chdk firmware version for my 101a; than I downoloaded it.

- I've extracted all the files on my formatted sd card (4GB) and I put the sd card in the camera.

- Turned on the camera with the play button and I've done the firmware update.

- It appears a screen of chdk with a "success message", but the camera goes off. And when I turn it on, nothing is different. The chdk doesn't work.

I tried to touch the DISP key, but the chdk menu doesn't appear.

PLEASE HELP MEEEE!  :(

The only official CHDK release for the ixus240 (also called the eplh320hs) is for firmware version 1.02A  ( ixus240_elph320hs-102a-1.2.0-3537-full_ALPHA.zip ).  I'm not sure what file you downloaded to support fimware version 1.01A but it was not for the ixus240 and thus will not work.  Which is exactly what you found out when you tried it.

That means a new version of CHDK for the ixus240 and firmware 1.01A will need to be created before you can use CHDK on your camera.  The first step to making that happen would be for you to do a firmware dump and then hope somebody has some time to do the port.

This will provide you with some background :
link> CHDK FAQ : My camera isn't ported yet

But having said all of that,  the possability of all this being done by tomorrow in time for your vacation is zero.

Sorry.

Update : link to info about firmware dumping if you are still interested : http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Obtaining_a_firmware_dump

Thanks for pointing that out

I believe STICK will let you select the unstable (or development) version so glossacatelli should be able to use that.

Thanks for your answers.
I know that there is the version 1.3 for my 101a. I downloded it, but it doesn't work...
I only see the message of chdk success, after the firmware installation. But when I turn on the camera again, I don't know how to open the chdk menu, because I haven't got physical buttons, ixus 240 hs is touch screen. :(

- Turned on the camera with the play button and I've done the firmware update.

If it switched off by itself, the camera has crashed which is not a good sign.

"firmware update" is one of CHDK's starting methods. It does not modify the camera's firmware.

CHDK has a touch-screen interface on touch-screen cameras.

If you are not using STICK to install CHDK on your SD card there is a good chance you do not have it installed correctly. I'd suggest reformatting the card and letting STICK reinstall everything for you.   That will let you autoboot CHDK using the card's lock switch which will be easier for you.

The problem is that in Stick, when I upload a photo, it appears the message "No official build is available for this camera". :(
And I can't go on...

In the image is selected the version 1.2, but of course I've selected also the 1.3, and nothing changes...

Click the "show log" button and copy the log here.

Since you're using Windows, you could do the installation like this:
- format SD card in camera
- put the card in a card reader, connect it to the computer
- extract the content of the "complete" CHDK package (from here) to the card
- put the card in camera, do the "fw update"
- CHDK should start and you should see an onscreen ALT button (actually, I don't know how that looks)
- press ALT then MENU, navigate to "miscellaneous stuff" -> "SD card" -> "make card bootable"
- switch the cam off, write protect the card with the plastic switch, put it back
- CHDK should now autoboot
- you can use cards up to 32GB with this method (special utilities are needed for bigger cards)
