HDMI output for Live View Canon SX260

I was trying to stream live HDMI video from my canon sx260 to a live  monitor. I thought something was either wrong with the camera or the HDMI cable was bad. I happen to hit the playback button and photos that I had taken appeared.  I have came to the conclusion that the HDMI is only for playback only. Is there a way I can use the HDMI to stream live video to my monitor using a CHDK script or a setting I haven't came across to change this?

Canon removed the ability to stream live video from their point & shoot cameras several years ago.  It's playback only these days.

There has been CHDK work related to streaming live video form the LCD display buffer via USB if that's of interest.   But AFAIK, no HDMI live streaming.

Some current cameras still support standard (non HD) video out in rec mode.  According the manual, this includes the SX260.

The manual will describe this in the TV out section if it is available, or only describe playback if it isn't.

srsa_4c experimented with forcing video out on cameras that don't normally support it http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=11439.0 I don't know if anyone has tried anything similar with HDMI.
Don't forget what the H stands for.
