Thanks for the link!    This might be the first example of somebody actually using the USB remote's Zoom Control Mode feature.

There are a couple of comments in the article :

We found that we had to increase each period with 20 milliseconds gave the camera a better chance detect the correct signal. So in this sketch, each pulse contains a 120 milliseconds high (5V) followed by a 70 milliseconds low.

that would probably be helped by enabling the high perfomance timer feature of the CHDK USB remote.  You might want to pass this information on to your friend?

Note :  the actual name of the required function (enable_remote_hp_timer) is currently under review.
