Startup Problem on SX40

I installed this version of CHDK on my SX40; sx40hs-100i-1.2.0-3575-full.zip  After doing so, my camera would not start up normally.  It started fast, but the Auto-Focus would take another 6 or 7 seconds to load.  When I removed the CHDK files from the SD card, that issue cleared up, so it must have been having the CHDK files on the SD card that was somehow interfering with the camera's operation.  Any ideas on what might be the problem here?

Can you describe in detail the steps you used to install CHDK onto your SD card?  And does it autoboot so that you see the CHDK logo each time the camera starts?   Or are you using the "firmware update" method to load CHDK?

Also, I'm not sure what it means to load "auto-focus"?  What are you trying to describe here ?

I checked the version of firmware I had by installing vers.req file on my CD card.  It came back as version 1.00I, so I downloaded that version, and unpacked it onto my CD card.  It started up using the firmware update method, and all seemed well.

The camera starts in about 3 seconds, but all functions will not operate until the Auto-Focus loads up.

So if you are just using just the firmware update method as described, then it's not possible for the presence of CHDK files on your SD card to do anything at all to your camera if you don't load CHDK.

I do understand what you're saying, and I agree.  However, I can't explain it any other way.  It's a fact.  When I removed the CHDK files from the SD card the camera began working normally again.  I will try to install CHDK in the future again, but right now I'm not that advanced, and I don't need the features that CHDK unlocks.  What I do need to do, is to learn everything I can about the standard operation of this camera, before I get into anything more complex.  Thank you for your quick replies though.

How big is the SD card you are trying to use?

Just as an update to this.  I have now reformatted the card, inside the camera, and reinstalled the CHDK package on the 32gig class 10 SD card.  Everything is functioning as it should now.  I will post again should any abnormalities appear.  Thanks for the assistance.
