SX510 HS questions - newbie around!

Hi to all, I'm all new to CHDK.
I have a sx510, and I are very satisfied with it, along its restrictions.
So, few questions: Does the ALPHA build crash alot? Can I brick my camera with it? What can be done if bricked? Am I able to set ISO values what I want over 1sec shutter speed? Is it secure ti use?

Sorry for much question, it's my first camera and don't want to brick it already because I don't have the money for a new one :)

Sorry that you did not get an answer the first time.

The terms "ALPHA" or "BETA" are not well defined for CHDK.  Usually ALPHA means an early release that runs without crashing.  BETA means all CHDK functions are believed to work.   Frequently,  nobody goes back and eventually removes the designation,  so stable release that are several years old might still say BETA.  Your best way to determine stability is to read the porting thread : http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=10984.0

Can I brick my camera with it?
Yes.  Read this : FAQ Q. Can CHDK damage your camera

What can be done if bricked?
Possibly nothing other than return to Canon for repair - which may or may not be covered under warantee.

Am I able to set ISO values what I want over 1sec shutter speed?
Yes.

Is it secure ti use?
Yes - but there are no guarantees.

There is always a risk of bricking.  If you can't afford to replace the camera in the extremely unlikely event that something bad happens,  it would be better for you to not use CHDK.  Sorry.

Sorry for doubleposting, just wanted to know to try it or not yet :)

Thank you for your answers, I think I'll wait some time to try it.

I was actually going to flame you for doing that until I realized we had not answered.  "No harm, no foul."

The risk is quite low.  I have six or seven cameras that have been through the wars porting their original CHDK versions - crashes of early buggy code were common back before the CHDK sigfinder started working so well (props to philmoz).  Hundreds (thousands?) of crashes from code mistakes and I have yet to brick a camera.

In contrast, anything you download from the autobuild will be pretty stable.  But there are no guarantees even though you are probably more likely to be in an automobile accident.

Thanks :)

Yes, I googled and found nothing, realy 0 points on google and more, fro bricked cameras with chdk or something else like that. But I just wanted to hear someones experience with it because nobody I know used it. And so I was a little bit suspicious.
I think I will give it a try, but not yet.
Thank you for your answers, you helped me a lot :)
