Maybe someone can find this useful, I wrote it last week for the DIYBookScanner software:

It currently supports almost all of the actions that the chdkptp CLI interface exposes.
It uses an embedded Lua runtime, so you can use all of the Lua code of chdkptp, reducing the amount of code duplication and making it very easy to expose new features.
