Java on the Canon cameras ? Replacement for uBASIC ?

Someone said that the firmware updates sometimes contain an executable file of unknown type.
The ARM926EJS has a built in bytecode Java processor.  Would the unknown executable type possibly be a Java file ?

Background information:

If the Digic II and Digic III processors did in fact support Java, it would provide a language/interface for people to develop applications in without some of the overhead/limitations of the current uBASIC that is being used.  Don't get me wrong, I think the uBASIC approach was great and my hats off to the people that did it.  But I would prefer Java.  It could be faster, tighter and more powerful.  And the built in Java system might report run time errors better.  It might also allow developers to use some of the error checking/reporting features that have been built into Java.

Just thinking out loud here...
