Good evening,
Thank you for letting me become a member of this community.
I am looking at buying a Canon compact so I can run CHDK on it.
I am torn between the Ixus 255 and the 265. I can see that the 255 has released firmware for it but not for the 265. My question is, can anyone tell me if CHDK is in development for the 265 and if so any release date?
or should I just go buy the 255 so I can use it right away?

Cheers

Welcome. There aren't "planned releases" here.
The ixus 265 will be supported only when a skill guy here will make a port (CHDK adaption) for this camera model.
Read this thread to know about the ixus 255 porting status.

Canon should add "CHDK Supported" on its camera features web pages  :D

Sorry, didn't look hard enough about the porting  ::)
Looks like the 255 is the one to go for. There isn't much difference in them apart from an extra 2x optical and a few other bits n bobs which will be in the CHDK for the 255  :)

Where are you going to get a 255?  It's old enough that it won't be in the camera stores any more.

"...I now have a almost full set of "Double Blind" (partial) ports for the Digic 4+ series of cameras..."
"...The method I used, is a improved version, but based on the old Ixus 240-100c porting method..."

Also I suggest, that before making making a final decision, that you download the cameras user
manual and canons camera specification brochures from canons web site.
This will give you a better comparison than just using Google to "Ixus 255 vs Ixus 265".

For example, if in the future, you need to be able to use a phone or tablet and use the Wi-Fi,
or Android NFC and then use Canons Camera-Window Software for (Wi-Fi) "Live View"
and (Wi-Fi) "Remote Shooting".

The Ixus 265 or Sx 600 (Digic 4+ series) may then be better choices.
Also see Canons list of Wi-Fi "Supported" and Wi-Fi "Compatible" camera models.

H-H
Camera-Window, a new version released on September 15, 2014, for Android is here:-
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.co.canon.ic.camcomapp.cw.ui.activity&hl=en

I have been looking a the possibility of a "Simple" Android Phone/Tablet NFC "Hack".
Note that the Android NFC "Hack" !dea could be used on any CHDK port that supports
the standard CHDK USB Remote feature. NO External Batteries are required.

To be clear, there is no working port of CHDK for the IXUS265 available for download.

Thanks for the feedback guys.
I had 2 (ixus 255) on my watch list yesterday but both sold in minutes, so lost out there.
I am now going to buy a new 265 and use it stock until such times.
I am more than willing to do a firmware dump if there isn't already one on here.
I am also willing to test the firmware should anyone do a hack for it.

Admin, if I am posting this in the wrong place, could you move it or point me to the relevant place?

There is another choice :  ixus255 = elph330
http://shop.usa.canon.com/shop/en/catalog/cameras/refurbished-powershot-digital-cameras/powershot-elph-330-hs-silver-refurbished#
The silver one is currently out of stock but black or magenta are available.

I'd also highly recommend this tool : https://www.myibidder.com

Waterwingz,
I was already looking at two 255 on 2 sites and both went so quick
I should mention that I am in the UK so it would be uneconomical to buy from the Us and ship it here.
