Camera for CHDK

Hi All,

I'd like to get a Canon camera to use with CHDK. The idea is to make HDR timelapse sequences.

However, there seems to be an enormous range to choose from! And there seems to be varying levels of support for CHDK...

So, I'm struggling to find a way forward: any suggestions for the following?

- Ideally under the 100 GBP mark / 150 USD mark. Could be refurbished, so that doesn't need to be a new price.
- Reasonably wide angle lens
- Good support for CHDK
- Good battery life
- Would be nice if it had some weatherproofing

Thanks for any info!

One nice place to find CHDK supported cameras is the Canon refurbished camera web site as it tends to have older models no longer available in the stores.  The current prices for an S100 is really low for a really good P&S camera.

Not sure if there is a site like that in the UK (or  Europe).   Otherwise, there is always eBay.

The only waterproof Canon P&S cameras are the D10, D20, and D30 - all fully supported by CHDK.  I have not seen any of the other models described as weatherproof in any way.

Thanks All!

The D20 looks a decent bet (and can also use it for snorkelling!). The S100 is something I'm considering too now.

Yes - there is a Canon refurb shop on Ebay for UK (I bought my 7D there). There doesn't tend to be a huge selection on there though, so will keep my eye on Ebay in general for a second hand one!

Cheers...

If used camera is not an option (due to availability), what models are recommended to use?
Any forecast what models could have CHDK support next?

Look through the list of supported cameras, find the ones with the hardware specs that most closely meet your needs, and then check the wiki and forum for problems. Read reviews on normal review sites, performance and image quality mostly depend on the hardware.

Most of us only have direct experience with a small fraction of the supported cameras.

Ports are done by people who have the camera, time, and requisite programming skills. There is no plan of which cameras get ported.
Don't forget what the H stands for.
