To add more mud to the fire , here's a540 trunk r3696

Looks pretty much like ixus870_sd880, but the rec and play palettes are slightly different.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

Is this different than what you had earlier?  Or just not what you were hoping to see?

My A560 is like that too -  similiar but different.

Other than the menu cursor color (which should be fixed), is there anything that has changed with any of the UI colors?

Nothing significant that I noticed. It looks like the default edge overlay color may have changed, but I don't think that matters.

It seems, that there are 2 color "types":
1. g15, n, n_facebook, s110, sx160is, sx170is, sx50hs, sx510hs
color definitions as 0x3FXXXXXX
2. other cameras (where palette is used):
0x[0]3XXXXXX.

Same is true for transparent grey:
0x1F0A0000 (n, n_facebook, sx50hs)
vs
0x[0]0090000.
Is there a real difference in color?

Hallo,

for my IXUS 970 IS 100b,

I tried to make screenshots with chdkptp to show up my color differences.
But first of all in the canon menu the colors on the screenshot are totally different. :(
Can I change this?

Second, the palette on the screenshot is different to the palette on the LCD.
I can move the cursor through the palette and this is reflected in the livescreen with the different palette.

On the LCD I get two palettes for REC and PLAY , but they end up in the same Screenshot.

Is is possible to write the palette hex-value into the color-areas in the Colour Test (System Colours, Histogram Colours, Script/Icon Colours), so that you can see which palette entry is used?

The colors are in AYUV format. The leftmost byte is the A or alpha channel value.

There only appears to ever be 4 alpha values; but presumably the hardware changed at some point so the values changed from 0,1,2&3 to 0,0x1F,0x2F&0x3F.

The YUV values should generate similiar colors on all cameras; although there might be slight differences.

for my IXUS 970 IS 100b,

Second, the palette on the screenshot is different to the palette on the LCD.

The IXUS 970 currently uses palette 1; but does not send palette information to chdkptp.
So chdkptp uses a default palette to display it's images.

Your screenshot shows a palette that is quite different to the chdkptp default, hence the discrepancy.

edit:
OK, I'm an idiot. Support (palette, frame buffer) routines are missing on the cam.
I have added the needed routines, the difference of palettes is now visible: playback mode rec mode.
Unfortunately, the new yellow/blue menu cursor doesn't look too great in rec mode (the playback and rec mode darker blue colors are not at the same palette index) so I reverted the cursor colors to the old default. Playback and record mode menu (with blue/yellow cursor) and the color test pages are here: http://i.imgur.com/iZqxORo.png
