the logo appears but no action with the print or microphone command.
The PRINT button is the one on the upper left of the camera - right?  Above and to the left of the LCD?  What happens if you press and hold for 5 seconds (rather than just quickly pressing and releaseing) ?

I start it playback - no?
Does not matter unless you are using the "Firmware Update" method of loading.

lost thread -- newbie---
my camera took 3 pix and the card was full -- it had 8 g left -- I formatted it, which of course delted all the installed CHDK. now, I can't download pix from that card directly to my pc. if I inset the card directly into the pc, I can download.

Okay,  time to go back to this post < link > where I suggested you would save yourself some time if you read through the page linked there.

If you had, you would have noticed that when you are using an 8G card then it needs to be setup with dual partitions.  And those require some special handling.   Take a few minutes and reread the stuff I linked please.  It's in the part about cameras released prior to 2012.

If you still have questions after that,  I'll still be here.

I did partition the card --- in fact with two files-- but I don't know if they were the correct ones.
I have given up - but only because if I want to shoot RAW I will use my other camera. also, the card has to be worked on each time you use it -- too much effort. the G7 takes great jpg for it cost etc.

HOWEVER, I want to thank you for all your efforts and patience!!!!!

I will certainly use this resource in the future.

it's 4:30 AM my time -- I'm losing sleep :) :)

Sorry - this does not make sense to me again.  Two files?

You don't have to do any work on the card each time.  However using dual partitions does mean you have to swap between the partitions when you want to access your images from the PC.

I have one simple suggestion for you should you decide to try this again.  Obtain a 4G SD card.  Cards 4G and smaller can use a single partition - STICK will set that up properly for you.   Once you have done that,  you never have to adjust anything on your card again.  Sure,  it's a smaller card but you can get a lot of RAW images on even a 4G card!

Use STICK to install CHDK on the 4G card,  set the card lock switch to the "locked" position, turn on the camera and if you see the CHDK logo then you are "good to go".   Nothing else required and your images will be available as soon as you plug the SD card back into your computer

(note that you will most likely not be able to see the RAW files over a USB cable connection to the camera).

"no firmware revision information in photo"
"no official build is available for this camera"

these are the messages that I am getting. I am selecting photos from the pc - not the card -- does that matter??

It should not matter where the image file come from as long as it's the actual image file from the camera and has not been edited on the PC.   Post one on a file sharing site (like box.com ) and drop a link here if you would like me to look at it?
