Hello, could you please share some tips on how to achieve some lighter spark photos, having quite a hard time with getting the right exposure and triggering the shutter.

Umm well a new thread wasn't probably necessary, but I believe the key to this is in a huge number of repetitions :P

I think I had my camera on continuous drive mode shooting as fast as it could while I kept igniting as fast I could. As for exposure, depends on what you want. A longer exposure gets you sparks drawing long straight lines and a shorter one may give you a nice clean view of a gas explosion. I believe I used 100 us shutter time and if I'd start playing with a lighter again I'd start with something slower.

I just tried this, and apparently failed miserably. I am not sure what my problem is, but might it be the wrong type of lighter?

I think you've got the wrong lighter type, if you hear a click then it means it's a piezo lighter, it produces an electrical spark to ignite the gas, so nothing to photograph. I tried using a zippo lighter, but my flint ran out :(
