CHDK on Powershot G1

Hello all,

I want buy a PowerShot G1 X to be used mainly for taking landscape and outdoor pic's.
I'm interested in HDR photography and I read that CHDK greatly expand the AEB function of many Canon cams.

I kindly ask two question before purchase:

- How many AEB shots and AE range is possible to achieve with the G1X running CHDK ?
- I see that CHDK for the G1X is available for various firmware revision. Will the CHDK versions currently available
cover the entire production of G1X or there is the risk of buying a camera with incompatible firmware? Unfortunately I cannot check in advance the firmware version of the camera I want buy.

Thanking in advance for any advice.

There are a couple of ways to do automatic exposure bracketing (AEB) in CHDK but the most common is via a script.  As such,  you can configure the camera to take as many shots as you like at whatever exposure increment you desire.  The only limits are your ability to hold the camera for all that time,  the size of the SD card, and the energy left in the camera battery (i.e. no real limit).

There is always that risk.  However, the G1X has been out for a while so most (if not all) of the released firmware versions should have surfaced by now. If not,  you can usually get somebody to help porting to a new version if you are willing to do the firmware dumping part.  No guarantee there but lately that has been the case.

note : the newer version of the G1X is not supported and might not be for a long time due to it's using the DIGIC6 processor
