Canon S100 Insufficient Space on card

Hello everybody or someone )

hope someone will help me as that thread doesn't have updates since 2011.
I trying to get working my two Canon S100, but failed with preparing SD cards. I have downloaded - ASSIST, which downloaded latest SDM 1.86 (1.86-150-s100-102a-57.zip). So i've prepared with it SD card with two partitions - first - 2 MB, and other is rest of my 16 gb card. When i put it into camera i got 'Insufficient Space' on card. I read here another topic (http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=6108.0) which looks like my problem, there said that camera which was used by member wasn't supported. I see that 1.85 SDM support s90 and s95, also on yahoo group (StereoDataMaker) i saw that 1.86 was working with s100, so i am stuck, could someone point me how to resolve that issue ? Maybe i should download latest update to get this thing work ??

Thanks.

My friend, use this method:

1. format SD card in camera
2. using a card reader, unzip CHDK version for your camera in root of SD card
3. start camera in Play mode and go to menu line "firmware update"
4. "update" the firmware and CHDK splash screen will appear
5. Press to enter Alt mode then Menu and go to Miscelaneous submenu
6. Find SD card sub-submenu then Make card bootable
7. take SD card out and Lock it!
Voila!

No need of other software, no need of partitions and works even with 32 GB cards. Verified by myself!

Dear ursamajor

thank you, you point me, that only thing that i should do, make SD card bootable. So i have found solution, will post maybe someone will need it:
1. Format card in Camera.
2. With 'sdminste.exe' (from SDM installer) i copied SDM files, by pressing only one button 'Copy SDM to SD Card'.
3. Using 'EOScard.exe' (pel.hu/) made card bootable, by pressing 'Make CHDK Bootable', then 'Save'.
4. Locked SD Card and took to camera.

Now SDM 1.86 work and no problem with 'Insufficient Space on card'.

As far as I know, firmware update is on the Play tab (the triangle) the last option. My two cameras have it in the same place. Did you start camera using the Play button?

Believe me, the method that I described to you is the easiest and didn't need additional oftware. No need for partitionate the SD card.

The s100 is a post-2011 camera so it does NOT need two partitions - just one FAT32. Your best course of action is:

1. put the card in the camera and use the Canon menu to reformat the card - it will make it FAT32 if it's bigger than 4GB
2. use ASSIST to install SDM (or STICK to install CHDK
ASSIST and STICK know that the s100 will boot from FAT32 and will make it properly bootable. Note that FAT32 requires that the bootable string is written in a different place in the boot record to FAT16. I'm not sure that EOS Card knows how to do it properly.

Here is what I have:

Put CHDK on SD card and the option will appear. ;) And don't forget to start camera in Play mode, using Play button.

Yes, Assist did the trick too, and i was able to load. One difference i see now that is bars are red when i used Assist and bars are blue when EOS Card. Don't know what it's mean  :)
