Put CHDK on SD card and the option will appear. ;) And don't forget to start camera in Play mode, using Play button.
Of course i did so,  and it didn't worked.
For the benefit of anyone finding this thread later,  I will state here that I have an S100 and the firmware update method of loading CHDK works perfectly.

It's hard to tell from the previous posts what you did wrong, or even what order you followed, but if you had a dual partition card like you seem to suggest,  then not only is that not necessary (as zeno suggests),  it simply will not work.  The CHDK port for the S100 contains no code to support dual partitions (as they are not needed).  So when you tried to use your dual partition card,  you got the message about "insufficient space" because the S100 was only using the small boot partition - it cannot access the other partition.

For the "Firmware Update" menu item to appear in the Canon menus,  only two things are necessary.  The first is starting the camera by pressing the Play button (not the On/Off button) and the second is the presence of a ps.fi21 file (containing CHDK) in the rood directory of the SD card.  If you had the ps.fi2 file on the wrong unneeded partition then the firmware update method would not have worked for you.

1 edit : some older cameras used a ps.fir file

FWIW, (and for future readers) the infamous "Mac file permission" issue has also been reported to keep people from seeing the "firm update" menu: http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ/Mac#You_may_have_issues_with_permissions.

Since mail_ra mentioned .exe files, I expect that wasn't the case here.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

Dear waterwingz, i did all step by step exactly as ursamajor mentioned. But you told me now something new and that is "ps.fi2". There is no such file in CHDK archive for my camera. Here you are - my Canon S100 has original FW 1.02a, so i downloaded from here http://mighty-hoernsche.de/ as links from chdk wikia follows - archives:

1.02A   s100-102a-1.3.0-3860-full.zip  (694KB)
1.02A       s100-102a-1.3.0-3860.zip  (289KB)

Both of them doesn't have file ps.fi2

So maybe because of that i don't have option FW update after starting camera with 'Play' button.
Check by yourself these archives and tell me what you think.

File ps.fi2 not included in any archive for Canons S100, i have checked even unstable 1.4 builds -

1.02A   s100-102a-1.4.0-3862-full.zip  (701KB)
1.02A   s100-102a-1.4.0-3862.zip  (290KB)

If it's so important file than someone should correct all archives for Canon S100.

For the benefit of anyone finding this thread later,  I will state here that I have an S100 and the firmware update method of loading CHDK works perfectly.

??? firmware update is disabled in the autobuild for all S100 firmware versions:

makefile.inc
Code: [Select]
#suppress FI2 since it doesn't work
override OPT_FI2=

Phil
CHDK ports:
  sx30is (1.00c, 1.00h, 1.00l, 1.00n & 1.00p)
  g12 (1.00c, 1.00e, 1.00f & 1.00g)
  sx130is (1.01d & 1.01f)
  ixus310hs (1.00a & 1.01a)

One of the disadvantage of using multiple cameras to test software updates.  My  SOP is a "know good" ps.fi2 on every camera's SD card so I can recover quickly when I bork a new diskboot.bin.   I would have sworn that's what I did with the GPS updates for the S100 but apparently not. :-[

Dear friends,
Sorry i don't understand last two posts, maybe because they are not for me. So according to message from here http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/S100

The S100 does not support loading CHDK via the firmare update method. Use the SD card lock autoboot method.
- and ursamajor's mesage with steps below, that method is not for me, am i right ?

1. format SD card in camera
2. using a card reader, unzip CHDK version for your camera in root of SD card
3. start camera in Play mode and go to menu line "firmware update"
4. "update" the firmware and CHDK splash screen will appear
5. Press to enter Alt mode then Menu and go to Miscelaneous submenu
6. Find SD card sub-submenu then Make card bootable
7. take SD card out and Lock it!
Voila!

I didn't know that S serie is different. I thought that all Canon cameras can use same method. Mea culpa.

I used to load my CHDK with SD bootable card method using third party software and I found it very tricky: sometimes I couldn't made SD card bootable, sometimes I should make partitions... very annoying. Using the above described steps, I managed to find an universal CHDK loading method that worked (and still work) for me and I'm sure it works for the overwhelming majority of those who use CHDK.

Correct.   The CHDK port for the S100 currently does not include the necessary ps.fi2 file.  This seems to be  because the normal method of creating that file does not work for the S100.   When I get home next week I will take a closer look at why.

I believe this issue is confined to a few camera and is unrelated to the Canon "S" series.  The S80, S90, S95, and S110 all have working ps.fi2 files.

Depending on your camera and the size of your SD card, this method may not actually work for you. So it's not quite universal.  If your card is very large, the camera may format it exFAT and you will not be able to make it bootable.  And if you have an older camera that needs dual partitions, the method will not work for you either.

Additional descriptions of that process which cover what to do in those situations can be found here :

http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Prepare_your_SD_card#For_Cameras_Released_After_2010_:

from the only current reference on SD card preparation :  http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Prepare_your_SD_card

The "third party software" linked at the top of that page ( STICK ) is pretty much the easiest way to install CHDK.  I do not know of any other tool that works so well for all cameras and SD card sizes.

32GB Sandisk class 10 and works by the method from above. Formatted in camera. I don't think that I'll use bigger cards on a compact. It's already bigger than my dSLR SD cards who are 16 GB.  :lol
