his energy saving question was regarding the remote-button, wasn't it? the battery from the remote will last ages, as long as you dont press the button.

Yes I was talking about the 9 volt battery however, turning off IS  and the LCD screen is also a good point since this person in the wheel chair is probably going to keep the camera on continuously for 1 - 2 hours while he is out taking pics. Thanks BB and PhyrePhoX.  I hope to have this all tested out in the next several days. Will post after that.

Can I just format the SD card in camera or do I have to format it another way ?

I am going to use the script below. Do I save it as .txt file or .bas file after copying and pasting the script below into notepad.

most simple:
Code: [Select]
@title Remote button

:loop
wait_click 1
is_key k "remote"
if k=1 then shoot
goto "loop"
end

Scripts must have a .bas extension.

As to formatting the card - remember that once you've put CHDK there you can't format the card or you will lose everything!

Sounds good. Can I format the card using the in camera format or do I have to format using the DOS prompt and FAT 16 method ?

you can format it using in camera format (only once though, as zeno already pointed out - the camera also erases chdk when you use the built-in format function of the camera).
i suggest reading the guide at CHDK End-User's Guide - 02 to get to know CHDKs basics.

So far soo good.

I have loaded CHDK,

the script for remote shutter is in the scripts folder,

I pressed the shutter button in <ALT> mode and it said ***started***

Now do I just hook up the usb remote and switch to record mode?

WHen I shut the camera off...will CHDK be automatically running again with this script ? I have locked the SD card already.

Thanks

did you choose the remote script first in alt mode? when in altmode, you have to press "set" button to get the script menu, in which you load the script. you also have to enable "remote usb" in this menu. there you also can set the script to autostart.

well, if chdk automatically starts depends on your method of installing. if you just copied the files onto the sdcard and used the "firmware update" in canon menu to activate chdk, well, chdk doesnt autoboot. you have to go to the "debug menu" in chdk and press "make card bootable". then autobooting shouldnt be a problem.
