My build is 1.3.0-3913 - it's what came out using the ACID/STICK apps to download the "right" one, on Jan 12th.  Would you suggest trying 1.4.0. instead?  (Little leery of "unstable" builds...)
Your build is fine.  The "unstable" thing is really not unstable - especially as 1.4.0 is really 1.3.0 with only a few unrelated changes at this point.  But 1.3.0 should be fine - especially as release 3913 is newer than the 3885 version that I am using.

There must be something else different between how you are using your SX50 and how I am.  I just can't figure out what.

Do you know the firmware version of your camera?  Mine is 1.00c

Thanks.  Tried again tonight, with RAW turned on.  Still had the same problem when using the self-timer (2s) - whether recording DNG's or not, the camera defaulted to 1s exposures, despite being programmed for 10s.  Only got my 10s exposures when triggering manually.

Was the DNG file saved to the SD card when using the timer?

What are your settings in the Canon shooting menu (servo AF, face detect, etc)? There could be some Canon setting that is causing exposure to be recalculated.

Phil.

According to ACID/STICK, my firmware also is 1.00c.

The DNG's were saved to the card.  Can't see them on playback, but on downloading them to the computer I could confirm that they look more or less identical to the jpeg's (exposure-wise), and have the same exp. times in the exif data.  (Also, I could tell right away by the shutter click that exposures made with the timer didn't last close to 10s.)

The Canon menu settings are:
AF frame  Flexizone
Dig. Zoom  Off
AF-Point Zoom  Off
Servo AF  Off
Cont. AF  On
AF-assist beam  On
MF-point Zoom  On
Safety MF  On
ISO Auto Settings  Max 1600/ROC standard
Spot AE Point  AF Point
Safety Shift  Off
Review  Quick
Reverse disp.  On
IS Settings  IS mode off
Display area  Small
Face ID  On
Shortcut button  Not assigned
No saved settings

Can you try turning off Cont AF, Safety MF, and Face ID.

If that helps, try them individually to see which might be causing the issue.

It might also be useful to know what settings you are using in the Canon shooting menu (the one you get at the left hand side of the LCD when you press the Func/Set button while in shooting mode).

And SD card size & speed?   Also, does it do this with an empty card or only when there are a lot of images on the card.

I'm hoping that I can reproduce your exact setup on my SX50 (and thus the bug) as we have the same firmware versions.

I've just tried shooting with the Cont. AF, Safety MF and Face ID allturned off.  I took the same scene as yesterday, with the same results - a ten-second exp. (as I programmed for) when I pressed the shutter, but only a 1s exp. when I repeated the exercise using the timer (2s) to trigger the shutter.

My shooting menu has:
AWB at Auto
Bracketing at Off
Flash at 0
Metering at Evaluative
Aspect ratio at 4:3
RAW+JPEG (for the moment - but with JPEG alone, it was the same)
Resolution at 12M

The card is a class 10, with 32GB.  I got it new for the camera, so it's taken fewer than a couple of hundred pictures in all, many of which have been deleted since.  There are a about 50 on it at the moment.  (It crossed my mind to switch it with the card in my SX10, where everything works - but so far, have preferred to spare myself the necessary hassle of changing the build on it etc.)

Thanks for staying interested!

This all sounds good and it is pretty much how my SX50 is configured.  As mine works and yours does not, we must be missing something else.   You mentioned in your original post that you would sometime get one or two images with extended shutter times when using self-timer but the subsequent image would lock at 1 second.  Do you still get occasional images with the correct override time?

Actually, I'm not sure that the ones which worked were taken with the self-timer.  In my first two posts before you raised the question yourself of the timer, that variable wasn't even on my radar - and I don't know any way to go back and verify that now, since it's not on my exif.

What struck me at the time was that the few shots that worked seemed to come immediately after pauses, during which I reviewed and re-set all my settings etc. trying to fix or figure out what was going on.  Having found no other explanation, I thought maybe the success of those shots was simply due to the camera (or sensor) having had a chance to rest.  But in retrospect, I know that at on at least a couple of occasions during my fiddling, I shut off the timer (or it shut off automatically), so that in getting back to shooting, the first shot or two were fired off manually before I remembered to re-engage the timer.

Whether that was the case for each shot that succeeded that first evening, I can't be sure.  I wasn't making the connection.  But since I've been specifically accounting for self-timer use vs manual, it's certain that no self-timer shot has produced a long exposure.

You're getting it to work on yours.  Have you updated to the latest build?  (I'm wondering if I should try "downdating" to the version you said worked in a previous post.)

A friend has just installed the latest CHDK on his SX50hs 100c (version 1.3.0 #3920) and attempted the procedure described at reply #8.

The exposure is NEVER longer than one second, with or without timer in 'P' or 'Av' mode.

The ordinary Tv overrides do not work either even though the shutter speed is displayed top left (in red) and also when you half-press. It is always one second exposure !
