Phil,

I tested your last "Remix4" based on CHDK 1.1.
. Zebra is again reading into the left column and half the screen, while half the screen is a black box with colored speckles - much worse than Remix 3 based on CHDK 1.3.
. Histogram works properly, as it has on 1.1 until now.
. ND Filter seems to work fine, without freezing and shutting down the camera.  This is an improvement over the standard CHDK 1.1 I've been using.

If it continues stable, this would be the "keeper" version of CHDK for the Ixus 300, so far,  because both Histogram and ND Filter work.

It has not crashed or done anything abnormal apart from the Zebra fail.  I tried running the ROMLOG utility anyway, using your directions, and that froze the camera black screen.  I also ran a *.lua script for it in the Scripts folder, and got CHDK Error 16, saying "Your CHDK does not support native function calls" interrupting the script.
Appreciative end-user for several years:  S5is, SX10is, and SD4000is.

You can enable native function calls in the Miscellaneous menu.

Thanks again for testing. The zebra position fix does not work in 1.1 because the required core system changes weren't implemented back then (sorry about that).

I'm curious why 1.3 would crash when 1.1 does not - there really should not be that much difference.
I'll take another look on the weekend and see if I can see anything.

Phil.

One more try with 1.3 for the IXUS 300 - please retest and let me know if it still crashes.

Thanks.  I tried it, will call it Remix5.
Histogram - Seemed to intermittently work right and then start the flashing behavior beteen center peak and two-edge peaks. Error 26 freeze and shutdown after first shot.
Zebra (O/U 10, draw over nothing) - like Histogram intermittently displayed correctly then flashes between a proper Zebra display and large orange block covering lower half of the whole screen, with narrow stripes across the top half.  freeze / shutdown after several shots.

ROMLOG attached.  There were two shutdowns - first using Histogram, second using Zebra.  Not sure if the Romlog captures all or just the current boot.

(For Waterwingz:  Remixes based on CHDK 1.1 don't have the native calls function permission setting, this Remix5 based on 1.3 has it.)

That's strange - the viewport code has not changed from the previous build of 1.3 I posted, which you said worked for zebra and histogram.

Did you copy all of the files from the zip file to the SD card?

The ROMLOG.LOG dump is dated 21st Jan, so it is likely from a crash prior to the latest version I posted (unless the date on your camera is wrong).

RE earlier experience, what I called Remix3 using 1.3 above had similar problems with Zebra, namely worked right briefly and within the image zone instead of crowding into black borders, but then flashes a big orange box with stripes - erratic behavior and then the Error 26 freeze / shutdown. The Histogram seemed to work at that time, as I said, but I only used it for a few minutes before trying the Zebra, so can't say if it was persistently working.

I see the Romlog.log readout from this morning says January 21, but my camera is set right and you'll see in Win Explorer (or whatever) that the Romlog file I sent was created around 8:20 this morning.  I uploaded it directly from the SD card - it's the first Romlog I ever made - and the earlier CHDK 1.1 Remixes don't support any Romlog creation - the .lua script causes error messages.

15012:  4:30 - 5:00 p.m. EST on the same Remix5 - CHDK 1.3

Histogram -  again it briefly works right, but after a few shots / reboots it begins the inaccurate flashing between center peak and edge peaks.  I've attached Romlog_hist.log created on reboot after the Histogram shutdown.

Zebra - tried again, rebooting three times.  Again the same erratic behavior with large blocks of orange alternating with proper display, and it did the Error 26 freeze.  I've attached Romlog_zebra.log on reboot after that Zebra shutdown.

I made this Remix5 card with CardTricks again on a 4gb Class 4 card, which has always worked reliably on all my cameras on small cards.

The two ROMLOG files are the same (the datestamp inside the file is 21st Jan) so they are from the same crash.

Use menu function 'Save ROM crash log', not the Lua script to save the ROMLOG.LOG file (this is in the 'Debug Parameters' menu, under 'Miscellaneous Stuff'). See if this saves a different ROMLOG.LOG file - if it doesn't then it means the camera is crashing without saving any log data; which is unusual.

Some camera errors can crash the camera without generating a romlog. An example of this can be found here. In case of such inexplicable errors (E26 - CaptureTimeOut or WBCaptureTimeOut) I would suspect buffer overflow / RAM corruption ... somewhere.

Philmoz:  I made a point of deleting the earlier Romlog from the SCHC card before each of those last two crashes.  I see what you say about the words in the Romlog, I don't know anything about that gets generated, but the file was created at the times in the Windows Explorer file date and each was a newly generated file, one following the Histogram crash and the other after the Zebra crash.

Here is a new one following a second Zebra crash just now, again after deleting the earlier Zebra crash file.

All of these were created ticking the native function call permission and using the Debug Parameter utility, and not the .lua Script.  One observation:  on the earlier Romlogs I did not tick the native function call permission box BEFORE the shutdown, but after rebooting from the shutdown.  This time I made a point of ticking the permission immediately thinking it might then be activated during the shutdown.  When I rebooted the permission was unticked again so I ticked it to make the Romlog.  I don't know if it is supposed to stay ticked between sessions.

Re SFSA:  It is an older Digic 4 camera, and all my Class 10 cards are occupied with good installs - I have been testing on a 4gb Class 4 card and have wondered if the shutdowns might be some kind of read/write problem caused by a more demanding version of CHDK than earlier on a slow card.  I don't see how that would affect the display problems with Zebra and Histogram, however, since all functions run smoothly until using the shutter for an exposure crashes the camera.
