I have been testing on a 4gb Class 4 card and have wondered if the shutdowns might be some kind of read/write problem caused by a more demanding version of CHDK than earlier on a slow card.
Very unlikely. If the card is defective, that could cause crashes, but in general a slower card isn't much different. Different versions of CHDK aren't really more or less "demanding".

More likely there is some other semi-random element, e.g location of things in memory varying by the specific build and toolchain used to build it. There are occasionally timing related issues that can vary with the SD card.

You don't need to reboot to enable native calls. You also don't need to enable native calls if you get the romlog through the built in menu item rather than using the script.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

Thanks - would be good if the Class 4 card works.  It takes so much time for me to do a User Menu, OSD changes and settings on my "final" cards that I'd rather not wipe one.

I see you're right about not needing the native call permission - the debug parameter generates a Romlog in CHDK 1.3 without it.  The problem came up earlier under CHDK 1.1 when I got an error mesage saying the camera didn't support native calls, so I assumed it had to be specially enabled under CHDK 1.3.

The big puzzler seems to be why the Romlog is continuously reporting exactly the same date and time no matter when I create it, e.g. four different Romlogs one this morning and several this evening:

Well there would appear to be other issues with this port, though I'm still at a loss to explain why 1.1 would work and 1.3 would crash with Err26.

Attached is a 1.3 build stripped right down - this version has all CHDK overrides disabled, including RAW/DNG, shutter/aperture/ISO & movie quality.

Please test:
- free memory (Show Memory Info menu item under Miscellaneous Stuff)
- zebra & histogram display
- ND filter
- ability to take multiple photos with or without crashing

Phil.
CHDK ports:

  g12 (1.00c, 1.00e, 1.00f & 1.00g)
  sx130is (1.01d & 1.01f)
  ixus310hs (1.00a & 1.01a)
  sx40hs (1.00d, 1.00g & 1.00i)
  g1x (1.00e, 1.00f & 1.00g)

Remix 6:

- Free memory:

Before testing:  8788848 bytes  CHDK size 140828 loaded at 0x14B394
After testing:  866368 / 140828 / 0x14B394

- Zebra:  Set Blink 2 u/o 10, Draw over OSD.

First session seemed to work through half dozen shots on Continuous.  Changed to single shot and it crashed Error 26.  Romlog_Zebra_R6 attached.

Second session done after the tests below, changed u/o colors to check readings:  Displayed correctly in half-press for single shoot and continuous, but often formed orange stripes and striped blocks between shots during the full shutter in Continuous shooting.  Did not crash this time.

- Histogram:  set Always, Blend.  Appears to display correctly in different lighting and exposure settings.  Didn't crash after about 10 single and 10 continuous shots.

_ ND Filter:  set In.  Filter strength (darkening) is barely noticeable, much less intense compared with the CHDK 1.1 Remix you made.  "ND" is shown in the Canon Playback details display.  Otherwise stable through single and continuous shooting when set both In and Out.

Not knowing what you disabled I didn't use SuperFine JPEG or custom ISO as I normally would.  I always create a User Menu, major changes to OSD and tweak various default settings, not done on these tests.  Don't know how those would affect memory demand.

@philmoz

There used to be trouble with the sx510 port, crash with enabled zebra: http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=10984.50
It's either something in the zebra code or a loose pointer...

Thanks again for persevering with this.

Srsa_4c might be onto something - can you try something please.

- Using the latest 1.3 version, start the camera with zebra disabled, make sure the camera is in shooting (not playback) mode and get the free memory value.
- Now enable zebra and record the new free memory (don't take any pictures).

Then repeat the above using the 1.1 version where zebra does not crash the camera and post all four values here please.

Zebra - Blink 2 u/o10 Draw OSD

(Had to reboot between changes to Zebra for the Memory Info check to change.)

Remix6 - 1.3 (stripped version)

No Zebra:  876224  CHDK 140828 0x14B394
Zebra on:  869088 others same

Remix4 - 1.1  fresh install

No Zebra:  Free 794216  Chdk 222940  Ox14B394
Zebra on:  Free 786528  others same

__________________________________________

Note: the above 1.1 is a fresh install.  I had changed your CHDK 1.1 Remix4 to my usual settings to see how it works.  I first tried it that, disabled Overrides but my User Menu and usual OSD changes were there so I realized a clean install would be better.  The result showing the memory effect of my normal changes, might have some interest since it's different:

Remix4 - 1.1 with changes to OSD, User Menu, etc.

No Zebra:  Free 789980  CHDK 222940  0x14B394
Zebra on:  Free 781392 others same

I'll be occupied the rest of this evening but will check again tomorrow.  I'm glad to participate - it's a rare camera but maybe some larger CHDK wisdom will come out of it.

Ok, that rules out the problem the SX510 was having.

I'm mystified - at this stage I don't know what could be causing the Err 26 when using the zebra in 1.3.

I appreciate the effort.  It has to be more difficult to work without the camera in hand. I'm not the one to ask that you do any more.

In case of future interest by other Ixus 300 owners, I'll sum up from my end-use perspective:

The CHDK 1.1 standard edition has worked for me in all but the Zebra and ND Filter and Grid functions, including EPO settings, major OSD changes, User Menu, CHDK settings and scripts.  Your trial Remix of CHDK 1.1 seems to have fixed the ND, but I haven't tried that rebuild out thoroughly with all my usual settings (Attached).

I had a little offline with Dave about the Stick install software not recognizing the image.  It turns out CHDK (with my settings, anyway) modifies the exposure and changes Exif in a way that foils the software. Stick does recognize an Ixus 300 image if it is created without CHDK, and works fine thereafter.

Best regards and thanks to all who added to the thread,

I2k4
