Install firmware camera s100

This is the thing: as you see I'm newbie in this theme, but I need some help. I'm trying to install the chdk in a camera S100. I already prepared the sd card for that and downloaded the firmware (the 102a, which I don't know if it is the better choice) that I found using the STICK. I think that the pasta is missing an archive (its name seems to be the PS.FIR/PS.FI2, but I really don't know too much about that). I'm not really sure how important it might be, I wonder if it is related to update the firmware).

As you see, this is my first post here and I am really needing help for that because of a job I am doing at the college. Sorry for any english mistakes because english is not my main language. Hope you guys understand the trouble I am having.  :P

Did you also let STICK format your SD card and install CHDK on it?

That file contains the actual CHDK software and is used when loading CHDK via the "Firmware Update" method. Unfortunately,  it is not currently available for the S100, which is why you do not see it in the distribution package you downloaded.   You must use the other method of loading CHDK - the "SD Card Lock" switch autoboot method.  That method uses the CHDK software found a file called DISKBOOT.BIN

You need to tell us more about what you did.   STICK will correctly format and configure the SD card for you.  Then you put the SD card lock switch into the "locked" position,  insert the card into your camera,  and turn the camera on.  At that point you should see the CHDK logo for a few seconds and you are ready to go.

Full installation instructions are here :  http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Prepare_your_SD_card

The CHDK user manual is here :  http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK_1.3.0_User_Manual

Good luck !

I formated my SD in FAT32 using my own camera. The problem is that I tried using the STICK to format the SD but it didn't work. Probably my Windows can't support this program. But I already formated that and I used it to update another firmware just to see if it worked, and in fact it did.

Sadly I have the DISKBOOT.bin and it still didn't worked at all. Here is a pic of it: http://i.imgur.com/0oSHaoc.jpg . I did the processes needed to to use the camera and looked for the option to update the firmware in the camera, when people said it would be there, but it wasn't.

I didn't use the STICK. I used the camera to format it. I'm wondering if it changed the whole thing. Going to look a little about that. See if by doing everything again and it may work.

Thanks for linking them, but I already saw them and it didn't change much. I installed and even did with another camera SX230 and it worked. I can't understand why it is not working with the S100.

Good luck !

Mateus

the key step I think you have not done is making the card bootable. This is tricky to do manually (you have to write the string 'BOOTDISK' to the boot sector of the card at location 0x1e8).

I strongly advise you to try to get STICK working on your Windows computer. It makes things much easier. It certainly works on Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8 but you will need to install Java (the STICK webpage tells you where to find it) and if you are using Windows 7 or 8 you need to start STICK using the stickx.cmd file - STICK needs permission to write to the boot sector.

As zeno says in the previous post, finding out how to get STICK working is the best thing to do.

While he mentions installing Java,  it seems from your first post that you were able to get STICK running and downloading the S100 CHDK file ?  So you probably have Java & STICK installed correctly.  Please give us more details and information about what did not work when you tried to use STICK?

There are other options you can use here - see below.  But first you need to read this and understand the difference between the
link>   Firmware Update Method
and the
link>   Bootable SD Card Method.

That's is because,  as I told you in my first post,  the Firmware Update Method of loading CHDK does not work with the S100.   You need to use the Bootable SD Card Method.   That is why you need to read the links I just posted and understand how the two different methods of loading CHDK work.

As zeno told you,  you need to have a card with the special BOOTDISK string in the header of the SD card. This can be created many ways.

The easiest is STICK.

Or you can use this utility : EOScard

Or try any of these methods : http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Prepare_your_SD_card#Windows

Or if you still have the SX230 available and you have an SD Card that is 4G or smaller , you can use it to create a card that will load CHDK.   For this process only,  you need to format that card as FAT16 and then install CHDK for the SX230 on the card.  Load CHDK and go to the CHDK Miscellaneous Stuff menu and then the SD Card menu.  Select the Make Card Bootable ....  menu option.   This will configure the card to be bootable.   In your PC, delete all the SX230 stuff from the SD card and unzip the S100 file to the card againwith full directory structure.

Put the little SD card lock switch into the LOCK position, start your camera and look for the CHDK logo.

The SX230 camera will allow you to start CHDK with either the Firmware Update Method or the Bootable SD Card Method..

The S100 will only start CHDK with the Bootable SD Card Method.
