Hi everyone!

I just got my sx710 and started right away to dump the firmware.
It was my first time dumping, so I'm not sure if there is anything missing...
 
Included in the zip is the 32.0 MB primary.bin, together with the extend.m dumper script that i've used.

Hello,
first post here and before anything I would like to thank this awesome work!
I´m trying to install CHDK on my SX710HS which was transformed to NIR/NGB.
Already installed a non official dev on my SX280HS and now I am starting to move around with it :)

I am using STICK but I can see that even with the CHDK folder i´m probably missing some steps because it was an unsuccessful installation. Normally I can move myself around without disturbing "too much" the developers paying attention to the wikis, but it would be nice to have some more directions for this camera in particular.

Bad new I'm afraid.  CHDK has not been ported to the sx710hs.  So there is nothing for you to use on that camera.

I dumped the firmware from my new SX710 HS and uploaded it to the following link.  The firmware version from my camera is 1.01a.

Hi Guys,

what is the correct procedure to get the firmware dump for 710HS,
I am following the instructions from the wiki but can't get it working on mine.

1. format the SD card ( 2GB sd card)
2. copy extend.m & script.req to the sd card
3. insert into the camera
4. press play ( power on)
5. press & hold Func/Set and press DISP

Nothing happens, much appreciate your help
The ver.req does work and i get version information (1.0.1a)
I have also tried to edit the master boot rec with a hex editor and add the word "SCRIPT" at 0x1F location without any luck.

First, if your firmware is really version 1.01a, you don't need to upload it as we already have a copy. The only reason you would want the dump is to have a backup of your cam's ROM.

Card setup for running Canon Basic scripts is detailed on the following page (you've probably seen it): http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Canon_Basic/Card_Setup

The steps you are missing are:
- "SCRIPT" goes to the boot sector of the partition (and not the MBR), and the offset is 0x1f0
- you only need to press (and not hold) Func/Set to start the script

Is there a way to update the official firmware from 1.00A to 1.01A?
And more importantly...would it brick my camera? ^^'

//edit: since I cant find a way to delete my post..
I just took a look at the FAQ which stated that it's not possibly to update via the PRIMARY.BIN from a dump and i'm probably stuck with 1.00
