I was out of town when you posted that the change was incorporated into the 1.4 trunk.  I just put the latest build, g9-100g-1.4.0-4131-full, into the g firmware version of the G9 and JPG Remote Shoot works, but the camera will not power on unless the USB cable is plugged in.

I tried both 1.3 and 1.4 in the h firmware version and neither works with JPG Remote Shoot.  A picture is taken, but it is stored on the SD card.

Can you describe the functional differences between 100g and 100h (using the most recent CHDK 1.4 release on both cameras)? Plus any problems such as the one with the USB cable.
Also check if you have native RAW + JPG activated in the Canon menu; remote shoot can only handle 1 file (the other will end up on the SD card). If you set the camera to native RAW only, you'll get the native RAW file instead of a JPEG.

edit:
note that nafraf's changes are only available in the CHDK 1.4 release, the 1.3 builds still use the old code

I won't be able to do more hands on testing until late tomorrow afternoon.  However, the symptoms for the 100g are pretty much as stated - if the USB cable is not plugged in (it is active) the camera does not power on.  I assume it is immediately crashing.  With the USB cable plugged in it powers up and works great, including JPG Remote Shoot.

I can't say I tried the 100h version without the USB cable plugged in.  I can test it more tomorrow afternoon.  It did work when I tried it, but the shots that were supposed to be transferred to the PC were stored on the SD card.  The CHDK screen that comes up when you press the activation button would come up after taking the shot.  I can test more tomorrow afternoon and report back with additional details.

I was able to test the new code before I headed out.  JPG Remote Shoot works, but like the g version the camera will not power on if the USB cable is not plugged in and active.  I did run the ubtest.bas and it passed.

It works great.  Also ran ubtest.bas, no problems.

This is off topic for this thread, but slightly related so I thought I'd ask.  I picked up an SX40HS, loaded it with CHDK and tried to get it to connect to CHDK PTP.  When I plug in the USB cable the display on the camera goes dark, the PC sees the camera, but CHDK PTP does not.  I set Remote Parameters to not selected, no Sync, I'm not sure what else to do.  I had a similar issue with one of the G9's and futzed around with it until it started to work, but I'm not sure what finally did it.  Any suggestions?

Again, thanks so much for all this.

Maybe a stupid question, have you installed the libusb driver for the SX40?
