Hi Guys.
I presently have a SX260HS near infrared camera and now need a normal camera to do mapping. The new camera needs to be the same size as the SX260 and must be able to reliably operate CHDK. Would I be best to go for the SX280? Or is there something even better. I'd get another SX260 but they're difficult to find now as they're getting to be an old model. I look forward to your input. :D

The sx280 port works with the new DIGIC6 processor.  This has required a huge amount of new development work by srsa_4c and the port is still really preliminary in completeness and stability.

So based on your description,  finding an SX240 / SX260 is probably your best bet.  Did you check the official Canon refurbished cameras sight?

Hi. I'm sorry but I didn't realise there were refurbishment sites. Could you suggest any? I'm in New Zealand.

Not sure how painful shipping to kiwi land is?  You might try googling for something international that works better - including on ebay!
