In short
This script will scan the exposure time range using histogram.
step 1: shooting current (saving tv current as tvzero)
step 2: Loop: lower exposure time, shoot, then decide from the histogram if there is point to continue in loop
step3: going back to tvzero
step 4: Loop: raise exposure time, shoot, then decide from the histogram if there is point to continue in loop

Very nice, I've wanted to do this for some time now, in fact I made some request to add better histogram readout.  I was following the timelapse thread (ultimate intervalometer I think) as he did some work with histograms for that.

I'm glad I didn't have to write this myself now :)

FWIW, the 1.4 development branch adds a lot more capability for measuring and manipulating the raw data. See http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=11081.10 for discussion.
Don't forget what the H stands for.
