Looks good enough and gives correct values for the manually selected focus mode on my D30.

Well, here's Focusser 2.0.

It tries to get the camera into a state where set_focus(...) works using waterwingz' get_mf() and get_sd_over_modes().
If set_mf(...) does not seem to work the script tries to find clicking "left" up to 11 times until get_mf() is true. It tries to set everything back to what it was when the script started.

I'm not 100% sure I am correctly interpreting get_sd_over_modes() and I have no idea if all CHDK-ready cameras use "left" as the entry to the focus menu.
The script works on my Powershot D30.
