S100 delay between pictures

I'm using CHDK 1.3 on my Canon S100.  Scripts I've been using are the KAP script and the 3DR mapping script.  I want the camera to shoot every 2 seconds, but it only seems to be shooting at 3-4 seconds.

Any ideas? I am recording images in RAW.  Is the camera just too slow?  People seem to have been using it pretty successfully for mapping, which requires a 2 second interval for shots.

Raw must slow things down significantly, have you tried without?

The other issue is whether your script does a whole pre-shoot / shoot sequence for each shot, or shoots continuously. A pre-shoot is generally needed to adjust focus and exposure, although there are ways to adjust exposure in CHDK without a pre-shoot cycle. On some cameras, the Canon firmware also includes a slightly slower continuous mode with auto-focus.

According to canon specs, the S100 can do 2.3 shots per second in continuous mode, presumably without raw http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/professional/professional_cameras/digcameras/powershot_s100#Specifications

edit:
The canon spec gives a good idea of the maximum you can expect to achieve under ideal conditions.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

With my S100,  the latest version of kap_uav.lua (v3.4) runs at about 2.4 seconds per shot.  But I'm not using RAW.
Note that Canon RAW on the S100 might be faster than CHDK RAW/DNG if you are experimenting.

The speed of your SD card will affect the shot rate.  Nothing like a good class 10 card to speed things up.

Also,  kap_uav.lua is not really written to optimize shooting time  There are a couple of fixed delays that could be taken out if getting reliably to 2 seconds is crucial.  I can look at that.

Incidentally,  the 3.4 script release will now time stamp your images to about 20 mSec resolution.

The camera will be attached underneath a quad copter, for mapping purposes, and I had read that RAW produces much better image quality. I am using a class 10 card :)

I seem to be getting around 2.9 seconds per image, on the KAP or the 3DR script.

I will test this in the field this week, and then see the difference in quality.  Thanks for the education, and help! :D
