Hi,

Does anyone here have experience playing with gphoto2 to capture image from the IXUS160 which has the newest CHDK installed?

I recently met a really strange problem:
I made this IXUS160 working on my old Ubuntu machine, which has gphoto2.5.8, libgphoto2.5.8, and libgphoto2_port 0.12.0, able to --auto-detect and --capture-image.
But when I tried the raspberry pi 2 which simply has raspbian jessie and gphoto2, gphoto2 was installed by gphoto2-updater (2.5.9), my canon DSLR cameras work well, but IXUS160 can be detected with --auto-detect but cannot capture image reporting error:
*** Error ***
Sorry, your camera does not support generic capture
ERROR: Could not capture image.
ERROR: Could not capture.
*** Error (-6: 'Unsupported operation') ***
And I tried my new ubuntu system, installed gphoto2 with gphoto2-updater (2.5.9), the same problems...
I'm stuck here for some days, any hints?

Many thanks,
Elaine

You might have more luck asking on a gphoto mailing list or forum. As far as I know, no recent powershots support Canon's old remote capture SDK, so if you had remote capture working with ixus160 and gphoto,  gphoto must be implementing CHDK remote capture in some way. There is some mention of chdk support on http://gphoto.sourceforge.net/news/ but I don't know anything about it beyond that.

Alternatively, you could use chdkptp. A build for raspberry pi is available from https://www.assembla.com/spaces/chdkptp/documents

Try something like:
gphoto2 --set-config chdk_script="script code"

Guys,
Probably I should ask this question in chdkptp thread, but want to make quick cross- check here as well.
My goal is to build relatively cheap time-lapse machine with Ixus 160 (CHDK-ed), and raspberry pi 1st gen with HDD to store the images.
When I trying to connect it with chdkptp on raspberry, I got a message no supported camera, seems that raspberry simple dont see the camera.
Do we have ptp support embedded into chdk for ixus 160?

Yes, ptp is supported.

Do you have "USB remote" is enabled on the camera? This refers to the DIY hardware remote, not PTP, and must be off to use PTP. This is the most common reason a camera isn't recognized at all.

Hi Guys,
Im new to this site, and love your work.
I have an IXUS 160 and want to be able to remotely trigger it to enable some 3D mapping from a UAV. Is this possible using the firmware on the previous page? and do I follow the installation instruction in the manual.
Noob questions i know......

Thanks again, and will report back any issues.

Cheers All

It should be.

The manual is always a good place to start. If the question is whether the manual applies to this build, the answer is yes.

You may want to check out waterwingz KAP/UAV script: https://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=10822.0

 :)
Thanks very much, I will load onto the SD and give it a go.
The wiki from the thread is very informative.
I'm going to start by trying the remote trigger from the flight controller, then move on the script.
I will be triggering via the USB port.

Thanks again.

There is one think about IXUS160. get_nd_present() returns 1. Where the value does comes from?
Watching at the user manual I got the following information:
Aperture: f/3.2 / f/9.0 (W), f/6.9 / f/20.0 (T)
Does the IXUS160 have an iris aperture?

The number in the manual just tells you the effective f-stop at the minimum and maximum zoom positions. Changing the zoom position changes the lens opening size and thus the reported f-stop.
