A3300 date stamp issues

I have noted on all the pics that I have a date stamp in the lower left corner.  I have looked everywhere for a setting that would not implant this on every picture.  I am planning on some lovely high altitude balloon pics and that date is going to ruin the pics.   

Is there something in the CHDK settings that remove this date stamp??? 

I have the camera running in discrete mode with the intervalometer_1 that is doing a great job of extending battery life to just over 3 hours taking pics every 30 sec.  love it! thanks for the help so far!

There should be an entry named "Date Stamp" in the Canon menu in shooting mode. Use that to switch this feature off.

edit:
You may already know this, but in case not: battery performance will be worse at low temperatures.

thank you so much, I was looking for it in the CHDK menus,  I didn't realize that I could change that and then turn off the camera and restart using CHDK.  it was driving me insane!!!  I knew there had to be a simple solution, again thank you!

I am aware of the cold, I am using some warming packs to help combat the cold air, but the best  I could get is a little over 3 hours using discrete mode (cancels out noises), at 30 second shots, using the intervalometer that cuts off the LCD screen in between shots.   I was looking for a better intervalometer that would allow the lcd screen to be completely off but couldn't seem to find one.  In future launches I might look for a camera that has a higher capacity battery.

Just about every intervalometer published here will do what you need. The more recent ones use the set_lcd_display() function rather than set_backlight() and save even more power.

I'd recommend looking at :

KAP_UAV Exposure Control Scrip for its exposure control function and the ability to turn the camera off when you are done (think plummeting decents..)

or

Ultimate_Intervalometer if you want to keep it simpler.

Or an external battery - which is  the only thing you really need to keep warm and is a smaller form factor to insulate AFAIK.

I loaded the KAp_UVA script.  it seemed the most promising.  but, even though I have the lcd off selected, it doesn't turn off , but I was able to figure out a way to get it to stay off now completely!! yes! so far this is the most promising, with one flaw lcd screen stays on when using the start delay

I also like that script because it also has a delay to start it, which is nice, but, again the LCD screen does not turn off, I cant figure out why.  I would love to send one camera starting pics right away and send the second one with like a 30 minute delay, but if the screen stays on for the whole delay, that will kill the battery even faster!

I would like to find one that has a shooting delay for start, and still turns screen off in between shots,

I am currently experimenting with the battery intervalometer.  the screen does turn off nicely in between shots. 

I did find that in the camera menu I was able to deselect the review pic option which was frustrating me to no end!!  but there is still like a half a second blip of the pic when it takes the pic.

The script does not turn the display off right away  -  there is a 15 second delay at the start so that you can make sure it's running correctly.  Did you wait long enough?   I assume you selected the Backlight Off [ * ] option in the script parameters?

FWIW,  the script has been downloaded almost 3000 times so if the lcd off did not work,  I would have heard about it before (aside from it working correctly on all five of my different camera models).

That leaves a bug in the A3300 port as another option.   Can you test this with the script I posted here : http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=9969.msg120923#msg120923  ?

One of the power saving modes used by the Ultimate Intervalometer script puts the camera into playback mode with the LCD turned off.   That's pretty much the lowest power option unless you have one of the few cameras with an Sleep mode.

Not to worry - we will get this sorted out.  And the good news is that you have already pointed out a script defect that I will have to fix in the next update. If there is a start delay selected,  the script waits for that delay but does not turn off the display during the delay.  I'll have to fix that.

I suspect that script simply turns off the backlight rather than the entire LCD system.  That saves a little power but is the least efficient of all the power saving modes.

That's one of the defects of simply turning off the backlight.  It turns back on after every shot and the script has to turn it back off. Like I said,  the least effective method of saving power.

thanks for the quick reply.  I did run the lcd test and it worked

I think you might have read my post before I edited it.  The KAP script does work nicely and turns off screen completely.   there is a delay which is minor, I think that this script will give me the best battery life so far of what I have tested.  I am not going to use the delay until there is a way for the LCD screen to be off during the start up delay.   My launch is tomorrow and I am finalizing my testing as well as getting my cameras in order, a pair of a3300's

I did try the ultimate intervalometer, and this might work, I might play with actually setting correct time and having the camera maybe turn on but is too tricky for me for now

thank you so much for helping me out.  this has been quite a journey and you all have been very helpful.  I remember when I logged onto this site a few months ago and was just blown away by the magnitude of the whole thing, but with you help I have been starting to get the hang of it.

Done.  Download link updated with v3.4b.

Now if you have a startup delay enabled and backlight off enable,  it will turn off the LCD completely while that delay is active.

As a further refinement,  if you start the camera in "playback" mode and then start the script,  it will stay in playback mode during the startup delay period,  saving even more power.   At the end of the delay it will switch into shooing mode on its own.
