Forgive me  if this  is not in the right place or  has already been asked but I'm wanting to take lighting  photos with my  canon powershot SX50 HS . I can't seem to find the right one for my camera. Thanks.

Assuming you have CHDK loaded and running, then this is the script you want :  MDFB2013.lua

If you have not installed CHDK yet,  instructions are here : Prepare Your SD Card.  Use of the STICK utility linked at the top of that page is highly recommended.

Did the camera actually turn off or did the script turn off the display (to save battery power) ?

You are going to have to tell us a lot more about what you did - in detail.  And specifically what you setting you used for each of the script parameters.

I'm just a newbie on all of this lol That maybe the issue as I didn't set any parameters.     I set the script  and hit the shutter and I  get this blinking in the bottom of the screen that says  Started  MDFB 2013 V1.1A  Alt   . I think it may very well be the to save battery power truning off.

It also just sits there not taking a photo . I've  even put my hand in front of it waving it to give it  the motion  factor  and it  never takes a photo.

You probably need to learn a bit about how to use CHDK scripts.

Start here : Scripting : Program Your Camera

Unfortunately, much of CHDK is somewhat experimental - it won't "just work" without your  help. You probably need to adjust at least the Trigger Threshold - see below.

It also just sits there not taking a photo . I've  even put my hand in front of it waving it to give it  the motion  factor  and it  never takes a photo.
You are going to need to tune the script's sensitivity settings  for your camera.

There are old but useful instructions here :   MDFB2013.txt      and many more details here :   Tuning and Sensitivity

Hint :  set  Display Power Saving [ Off ]  and Reaction Mode [ Test ] to see what is happening.
