Build 50 - Powershot a540 not working

I recently discovered CHDK, which interested me greatly as photography is a hobby of mine and having the ability to have more control over my camera seemed quite appealing. I read up on it and installed it as directed. It worked fine for about 5 Minutes. Now, my a540 doesn't work. Even with fresh batteries and a clean SD card, I immediately get a low battery warning and the camera will power off when the shutter is pressed. Either the camera will shut down instantly and not retract the lens, or I will get the "Change the batteries" screen and then it turns off as normal. Is this just a problem that coincides with my installation of CHDK, or did it fry my camera? I've read all over that CHDK can't harm your camera, but this has me very worried since I don't have a lot of money to get another camera if this one has become a paperweight. Any assistance would be very appreciated.

Check your battery contacts in the door and down inside the camera and make sure they are clean...

Many of the Canon P&S cameras have reported problems with poor connections and the battery doors... Clean them (and the battery ends--a clean pencil eraser does OK--just slightly abrasive), and a few people have bent the camera contacts to give a bit more pressure successfully.

Is is possible the Canon "battery door" issue has been exacerbated by opening and closing the door more often as you were working to get CHDK running...

Lastly, of course, it is possible that you have a bad battery...

There is nothing that CHDK can do to cause this problem--especially if you have a clean card without CHDK installed (in my humble opinion--I always could be proved wrong).
