How to get to Alt mode or CHDK menu on my ELPH 100 HS.

Hi, noob here.  I used STICK to get the proper version of CHDK onto a 4GB SD card (I have a 32GB SD card that I just could not get working with STICK).  Anyways, I tried with my SD card locked and unlocked in the camera.  I tried using the playback button and in the regular point and shoot mode.  I tried holding the set button.  I tried holding set and zoom in.  I tried just about everything I could.... and I do not for the life of me see any other new menus or anything.

Do I install CHDK onto the card wrong?  Am I missing something?  Please help.  I promise to document any assistance that I get into the wiki for this particular make and model camera.

With the card locked, do you see the CHDK start-up screen when you switch on the camera! If yes,  CHDK is installed properly. In that case, a brief press of the playback button should put CHDK into Alt mode ("Alt" should appear on the screen at bottom left). And then pressing Menu should bring up the CHDK main menu.

I just tried the EOS method as well on my 32GB SD card... no luck.

If you look at where STICK is installed on your hard drive, there should be a file called sticklog.txt .  Please post that here as an attachment.

If you haven't already done so,  you might want to read through this :  http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Prepare_your_SD_card

I must not have it properly installed... I do not see a CHDK logo regardless of how I turn on the camera.  I just see the normal camera menus and it tells me my memory card is locked.

I have access to both MAC and PC.  If there is any chance that you could PM me and you can walk me through this, I would be SO HAPPY.  I have followed 4 different methods on the wiki, step by step and gotten seemingly nowhere.

Attached.  Thanks!

Edit:  I did read the wiki about 100x.  Either it is poorly written, my camera is finicky, or am I am idiot.  It could very likely be a combination of all of those.  Like I said above... I will gladly add to the wiki article for my camera once this is resolved.  Also, it is supposed to thunderstorm and be tornadic today... if I can get this working in the next hour or so... holy cow will I be happy!

I prefer not to use PM's for this type of thing - when you do that nobody else benefit from the experience.  And the CHDK forum PM severely limits the number of messages you can send per hour anyway.   If you want "real time" help,  the CHDK IRC channel is available - although its really only useful late at night Pacific Standard Time.

Judging by all the "Permission denied" errors in your log file,  you are not running STICK with admin (or elevated) privileges.  This is necessary when using Macs or PC running Win7 or later.

And that would explain why your SD card is not being correctly configured for autobooting with the SD card lock enabled.   Note that you should still have been able to load CHDK with the "firmware update" method if you followed those instructions correctly.

So if you are using Windows,  try starting STICK by double-clicking the stickx.cmd file.

I completely understand the logic behind wanting to answer questions in the forum rather than via PM...

Also, I tried to run stick.cmd from windows and it opened up in winzip.  Not sure where to go from there.

Well, let's start with using the stickx.com stickx.cmd rather than stick.cmd?

Find the stickx.com file in the folder where you unzipped (expanded) the stick.zip archive and then right click your mouse on the file name.  You will see a menu appear.  Select the "Run as Administrator" option.

Unless of course this all turns out to be related to you not having "unzipped" the STICK installation file?  I hope you are not trying to run the STICK download file directly ( STICK.ZIP) ???

There's no stickx.com - you have to run stickx.cmd. The problem is you don't have the java run-time associated with jar files. Since jar files are a type of zipfile, when stickx.cmd tries to run the jar it doesn't invoke java but an unarchiver.

What you need to do is right click on the stick.jar file and select "open with .." from the context menu. Then choose the java run time to do the opening. Once you've done that doubl-clicking stickx.cmd should work fine.
