The G15 has a remote control port but it only controls the shutter in still image mode.
As I use the camera mainly for video I need to know, before I build the USB remote control and install CHDK, does CHDK support remote control of video for this camera?

Yes.

In the menu item "Control Modes" You can select "Video". This option allows you to start and stop video recording via the USB remote control.

Installing CHDK via STICK is pretty easy and painless.

To simply test USB remote functionality without building anything,  use the USB cable that your use to connect your camera to your PC.  Plugging and unplugging that cable (either end) does a nice job of simulating a remote switch.

Thanks for that information. I'll give it a try.
