Powershot A470 Lens Removal and Error bypass

Hi everyone, I've got an old Powershot A470, that I decided to convert for some prime focus astrophotography. I've removed the lens assembly and I'm now getting a Lens Error Restart Camera message when I switch the camera on.

Didn't think that one through.

Is there any way through hardware or firmware to bypass this error? I've looked through some other threads but they don't seem to help that much as they're based on different cameras.

If you haven't already found it,  http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/User:Srsa_4c/Working_with_a_broken_camera may be a useful starting point.

I don't recall anyone operating A470 without a lens so you will probably be in new territory. If you haven't broken anything in the disassembly process, you might try hooking up all the hardware but not having it in the optical path.

Unfortunately the lens assembly just fell apart when I took it out and the connection to the board is broken. Seems like I might be out of luck on this one, I'm simply not skilled enough to figure out how to fool the camera that the Lens assembly is fine. Thanks for the reply.

Hi, I have read that there is a way to bypass the the lens error on some powershots by holding a screwdriver on a certain area as you power up the camera. I'm wondering if someone could expand on this as the posts I've seen have been a bit vague.

If you link to the specific thing you read that might be helpful.

As a guess, I'd expect this advice is for cameras that aren't disassembled, but have some physical problem with the lens opening mechanism. You can get a lens error if the lens mechanism is jammed or damaged and can't open fully. It's hard to see this being relevant to your case.

For your case, you either need to emulate the lens in hardware or bypass the error in software. Either option is likely to require a significant amount of highly technical work.
