Hello, I am new here, and i was wondering if there is a script, that makes  it possible to connect my canon sx50hs to my television or laptop, so i am able to see on my laptop or tv, what my camera sees at that moment.

i know i can see th epictures and movies i already have made, but i want to see it live.

Thanks, Harry

Your camera has analog video output which is also available in shooting mode. Get an AVC-DC400 ST cable or one of its clones and use it to connect the camera and the TV.

If your laptop runs Windows or Linux, you can use CHDKPTP to see the camera's live view. You need to install CHDK on the camera for this to work.

well, i have chdk on my camera installed, i already had this, but computer comes witn an error, :

unexpected return code 0x2005
error: cannot get camera CHDK PTP version; either it has an unsupported version or no CHDK PTP support at all

this ain't easy to install.

my computer does see the camera in the system, so that's ok.
but when i turn on my camera, when will i see the program chdk on the sd-card in the camera?

or is that when i have picture on my laptop from my camera , that i can coonect to chdk?

this is difficuly, pfff

Do you actually have CHDK running on your camera?

You may have to installed the CHDK files correctly on your SD card but you also need to tell CHDK to run.   You do that with either the "Firmware Update"  method of the "SD Card Lock" method.   More details here : Prepare Your SD Card

Hint : if you do not see the red CHDK logo splashscreen when the camera starts then CHDK is not running.

You can connect from your PC to your camera via PTP regardless of whether there are pictures on the camera or no pictures on the camera.

One question: You have the correct driver installed? For chdkptp you need a special USB driver. Read more here: http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/PTP_Extension#LibUSB_Driver_for_Windows

The camera's USB connector provides both USB connectivity and analog audio/video signal (that means, you can't use a USB connection and analog video at the same time). Canon has always used the word "DIGITAL" for the USB connector.
If you're still unsure, download the camera PDF manual from the Canon support site. You'll find that

When the camera and TV are connected, you can also shoot while previewing shots on the larger screen of the TV. To shoot, follow the same steps as when using the camera screen.
