Hi folks

Does anybody know whether CHDK works on any of the newer cameras that have 1 inch sensors?
I've been very impressed with the photos I am getting out of the Canon ELPH and if I could improve on that then that would be great.
In addition does anyone know if CHDK has been  considered for use in less mainstream cameras as the default firmware? For instance there is a kickstarter project called Konost.

The G1X is supported by CHDK, I think its sensor is bigger than 1""

Given that CHDK is inextricably linked to the hardware and firmware inside Canon cameras, there's no easy way to port it to other camera systems. It's not a replacement for the firmware in the camera, but an enhancement.

Alas the G1X is so costly, I don't see the advantage over any APS-sensor camera.

I wonder if the source code were stripped of all Canon-related stuff, would the remaining code be useful at all? For instance the DNG file support.

You seem to have conflicting requirements. A 1" sensor is, by definition, not going to be cheap. The sensor in the adafruit camera you mention is 1/4" - it would take 16 of them to give the same performance as a 1" sensor. If all you want is to step up from your current Elph there are plenty of CHDK-capable camera to consider with a wide range of prices.

Someone wanting to implement CHDK features on different hardware would maybe find some of the CHDK code useful as a source of algorithms, but very little of it could be directly copied.

They are back up to $580 now, but FWIW the Canon USA refurbished site periodically has G1X (original, not MK2) available for ~$280. That seems like a pretty decent price to me.

Not likely. You might find a few bits that were worth recycling, but most of it is either very closely tied to the "Canon-related stuff", or written in a really ugly way due to the constraints of being hacked into the Canon firmware, or (most commonly) both.

If you want DNG support for the raspberry pi camera, there's no need to involve CHDK. AFAIK the current raspberry pi utilities support raw output so converting to DNG would just be a matter of shuffling headers.
