Distance bracket shooting with an auto-focus only camera?

Hello everyone,
I am trying to make use of the distance bracketing in CHDK on my TX-1. The TX-1 has a great lens for macro shooting, but when I try to use distance bracketing, it often shuts off the camera.
I have searched and have read that this should be used in manual focus mode only. Does this mean that I am unable to utilize this feature because there is no manual focus on the TX-1?

-Is there a script available that can do this same thing for me despite the lack of a manual focus?

Thanks.

Since I can do this manually on my autofocus A560 by overriding the subject distance value under extra photo operations I am sure this can be done with a script as well. Have you checked if you can do manual distance bracketing this way?

*EDIT: actually you don't even need a script for basic SD bracketing, you can just use the built-in bracketing-in-continuous-mode feature to do that (on my A560 at least that is - just checked again)

Hi vine,

That's what I am attempting to use, which shuts the camera down- Unless I am using it incorrectly.

tx-1 focusing isnt fully explored via chdk yet. i think i read microfunguy report that it needs to be taken care of.

I have a similar question, but for the SD500.  It doesn't have a manual focus mode, and also doesn't have the menu option for subject distance bracketing...  any workarounds?   thanks a million!  cheers,

I'm still waiting on the manual focus for the TX-1.

Yeah, the lack of manual focus is pretty much the only thing holding back my SD500 from being a kick [admin: avoid swearing please] little camera.  Additionally, I can't use your awesome DOF Stacking method, since the SD500 doesn't support "Subj. Dist. Bracket Val".  Doesn't even have the option in the menu...

I'm sure someone has to be working on adding a manual focus option for autofocus only cameras?

Maybe I'll just have to wait until my G9 is supported?

Cheers,

-joe

Cybercom told me on a TX-1 forum that Microfunguy's Stereo Data Maker build gives the ability to manually focus the TX-1. I have no interest specifically in stereo photography, which is what everything on Microfunguy's build is set up for.
It's the ONLY thing my camera lacks, and since the TX-1 has great glass (10x optical zoom), it's even more of a shame I can't manually focus it. :(
