Dear all,

Not sure if I have posted this in the right section. I'm a researcher using a motionp.lua in my work. How should I cite the use of CHDK and a given script in a scientific paper?

I will also be happy with some examples of scientific papers that have used CHDK.

I wasn't aware of papers citing CHDK, but https://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&q=chdk provides quite a few relevant results (mostly paywalled  :().

There is no formal CHDK organization and many of the contributors prefer to remain pseudonymous. The wiki is the closest thing there is to an official homepage, and the "official" source is maintained in the assembla project.

edit:
chdk hack as search terms seems to weed out a lot of the unrelated stuff. I'm pleasantly surprised by how much scientific work appears to have benefited from CHDK.

Maybe quite a lot of benefit to science!

CHDK is very useful in my research (wildlife ecology) and I want to say a big thank-you to all developers and maintainers of CHDK.

I would like to recognise this fine work by formal citation. The citation does not need to give individual names. For example, developers of the excellent open source statistical software R recommend this citation:

  R Core Team (2015). R: A language and environment for statistical
  computing. R Foundation for Statistical Computing, Vienna, Austria.
  URL http://www.R-project.org/.

Maybe we can use something like this:
CHDK Development Team (2015). Canon Hack Development Kit. URL http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK

It would be really nice if some of the guru developers can consider this, change as they wish, then put their recommended citation on a wiki page.

Seems fine to me. I guess this could go in the FAQ?

As an aside, I encourage people who use CHDK for research to post about it in this section of the forum. For me, seeing people do cool stuff is what makes this all worthwhile.
