G15 RAW Issues - Images Scrambled??

Hi,

Newb here! I'm trying to get RAW images working on my G15, but I keep getting files with no images, just white with horizontal scrambled looking lines.

The jpegs come out fine, but the RAW images and not working.

I know the G15 shoots RAW in M mode, but I need RAW images when set to auto mode as I am sending this camera up in a high altitude balloon.

Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time in advance!

Are you using RAW or DNG with CHDK?  How big are the files?

If RAW,  what photo editing / viewing software are you trying to use?  A CHDK RAW file is just a dump of the image data directly from the sensor - many photo programs  cannot interpret the resulting file.

You should be able to get native RAW to work in P mode - which is essentially the same thing as AUTO mode but you are allowed to enable/disable/set more of the shooting parameters (like RAW enable).

Thanks for the reply Waterwingz.

I have RAW selected in CHDK, and DNG is on. The RAW files are 19.5 mb, and the jpegs are around 2.3mb.

I have tried to drop these files into PS CS5 and they show up, but there is purple scrambled horizontal lines going through the images. I've also dropped them into darktable and they have the same purple scramble lines there too.

I was able to get RAW working on my s95, and used the same process on the g15, not sure what to do?

Will check out the UAV script!

AFAIK, there are several things that can cause this on CHDK ports.  It will take some debugging to figure out.

Why not use the built-in Canon RAW by setting the camera in P mode as I suggested above?  Or let the kap-uav.lua script control exposure with Canon RAW turned on?

Use a mode other than auto. Many modern cameras do not have raw data available in auto mode. There is no known fix on the affected cameras. As waterwingz suggested, P mode also gives you automatic exposure, and should allow you to use either Canon native raw or CHDK raw or DNG.

edit:
It's possible this port has some other bug, but since (as far as I can tell from the manual) the canon firmware doesn't allow raw in this mode, I would guess the data isn't available.

Thanks for the replies everyone!

After some research, the g15 raw files are not supported in my version of Camera Raw 6.7, Photoshop CS5. After using P mode and the cameras built in RAW setting I was able to get the RAW images to open in the Darktable app. Thinking of getting Lightroom.

There is some fisheyeing in the images, maybe can correct in post.

Thanks again!
