After finding (devastatingly) that my camera couldn't use chdk, which, in your opinions

would be the best camera (easy to install and run chdk)  for me to purchase next (probably used and on a budget)

 Thanks :)

I have done a search on your earlier posts. Do you still have the ixus220? Looks like the reason you could not install CHDK was that STICK failed for some reason.
If your computer is not a Mac, installation is rather simple on a post-2010 camera (such as the ixus220), even without STICK. I can detail it if you need it.

I probably won't be able to answer the question, but you may want to add some details to get a usable answer:
What do you plan to use the camera for?

Thanks for your response srsa_4c,

Yes, the 220 has died (foreign objects floating around inside it) and the whole episode trying to use chdk with it gave my a**e a headache !!

I have a 170 ordered because I loved the ixus's versatility, however, I may purchase
another model should I find one that is better/more easy to use with chdk.

I'd like to use chdk primerily to experiment with time lapse

By the time you convert a few hundred /  thousand images to video, the quality of the original image (and the size) does not really matter a lot.  So just about any camera that supports CHDK will work for your application.

My suggestion is that you to find one or more used (eBay?) or Canon refurbished camera that you think you would like as a camera, check our list of supported cameras on the main wiki page, and then post your choice(s) here for comment ?

An ixus 170 or sx170? The ixus 170 is not yet supported by CHDK.
Don't forget what the H stands for.
