I did not find any justification in porting thread, I have not checked the code.
boot.c and loader code were updated on rev3506 using code_gen tools, then I'd like to test firmware update method with current version.

Worth a shot.  I suspect many of the older ports have bugs that we have since fixed or worked around.

A suggestion for the original poster: try it with WASP on a different computer.

Might not work for you but for me this was the only solution when I had a similar problem with changing partitions for CHDK cams.

WASP had been working perfectly for me until I got a new laptop (win 7 64 bit) a couple of years ago. With that new laptop suddenly I could not change partitions with WASP, nor other partition tools. (Could change partitions in camera with CHDK but not convenient for my usage). Normal reading and writing of SD cards was fine.

I received great help from WASP developer zeno, but the partition-change problem with that particular laptop could not be resolved.

I reverted to my old laptop for a while (WASP works fine there) and subsequently got a different new laptop (also win7 64 bit) and WASP works fine on this one too.

For reasons I can't understand, a small percentage of users have problems with creating or switching partitions using WASP (and STICK). It's always Windows and switching computers (or card readers) often helps. But none of my attempts to diagnose the problem remotely (I can't reproduce it on my machines) have revealed what's going wrong. FWIW under the covers WASP and STICK use standard Windows API calls to do their job and the code in these apps that switches partitions is IDENTICAL to the code in CDHK that does it.

Well, maybe I'm stuck with using another computer then. WASP works fine on other computers for me.

My SX20 is firmware GM1.02C.

Alternatively, is there a workaround so that I can transfer RAW files via the USB connection and avoid having to swap the partition?

You may also be able to choose a combination of raw prefix and extension that allow raws to be seen with normal windows software. I would suggest starting with something like CRW_nnnn.CR2, with "RAW File folder" set to "withJPG". If this works at all, you will probably have to restart the camera between shooting and plugging in the USB. If you are shooting DNG, you need to deselect the "'DNG' file extension" option. Your files will still be in DNG format, but with a CR2 extension. This may confuse some software, in which case you'll need to rename them to .DNG after downloading. If windows is set to hide known extension, you may want to turn that off.

You can also use the CHDK PTP extension to transfer files: http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/PTP_Extension
Installing the libusb driver will disable access to the camera with normal windows software.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

Thanks for all the help on this. It's very much appreciated.

Test version with firmware update method enabled. Please test it and report.

Using this version, once I click Ok for update firmware a upside down "E31" appears in the upper right corner, the CHDK splash screen appears upside down, and then the camera powers off.

Using the CRW prefix and the .CR2 extension (and disabling the DNG extension) worked, allowing me to access the raw files via the USB cable.
