setting minimum shutter speed in P mode?

I have  Powershot D30 which I'm intending to use from a drone (quadcopter) to measure the condition (i.e. shape) of whales and dolphins, to see how that relates to breeding success. Obviously the images need to be sharp, taking at reasonably high shutter speeds.

I see a way to force a particular shutter speed, but can you set a minimum shutter speed in P mode, or even better, activate a shutter priority mode?

Any advice gratefully received.

There is no way to set "P mode but with a shutter speed greater than X" using just Canon firmware controls or CHDK menu options. CHDK does not add Tv modes to cameras that don't have them in the Canon firmware.

"Custom auto ISO" http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK_User_Manual#Custom_Auto_ISO might be some what close, but you are probably better off using a script. Waterwingz' KAP/UAV script should be a good option http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=10822.0
Don't forget what the H stands for.

I actually started that script as a quick replacement for the built-in CHDK Auto-ISO function, which doesn't really do what is needed.   The replacement part got done,  but it's turned out to be far from "quick".  :o

Edit : The script should do pretty much exactly what stevedawson needs, including a bunch of things he probably doesn't realize he needs yet.
