I have, two camera G7 and sd500....
CHDK for G7 works well,  but on my sd500 doesn't works. I tried this chdk:
 allbest-ixus700_sd500-101a-50(2)   allbest-ixus700_sd500-101a-51-390 :
when I try this two version the camera  works normally but without CHDK

 allbest-ixus700_sd500-101b-50(2)  allbest-ixus700_sd500-101b-51-390:
when I try this two version the camera doesn't works and then I must remove the battery.

I tried also other versions but the results is the same...

my firmware version is:

canon powershot sd500
       P-ID:30F2 NT
firmware versionGM1.00D
        jan 25 2005

PS I'm italian, sorry for my english:)

thank you to help me

it seems chdk has to be ported to your firmware version.
this means you have to provide a dump and either do it yourself or have someone else (preferably the one who ported chdk for your cam in the first place) port it.

there are some threads about porting chdk to the sd500, different firmwares though:
ended up with SD500/IXUS700 fw ver 1.10c
Ixus 700 / SD 500 Firmware Dump 1.01b available - porting started
IXUS 700 / SD500 101b
maybe the people who did the ports can help you again, maybe ask them in PM.
other than that, if you wanna do it on your own i suggest reading here first: For Developers - CHDK Wiki

For me it's difficult...  but I tried with this method : Dump Ixus 960is

1-format sd card with camera
2- I take "udumper" archive  copy file  bootable.exe, empty.dum, and one of the three diskboot.bin (I tried all )
3-block   the sd card, put it in camera in play mode on, wait 1 minute, remove battery and after sd card....
4- open empty.dum with hex editor( cygnus free), and there are only zero... :(

what I wrong? (...all?)

Don't copy bootable.exe on the card, but apply it on the card:

type bootable X: on the cmd prompt, if X: is your SD card (this is for Windows)

good luck,

wim

PS If your more comfortable with a program, try CardTricks: zSHARE - cardtricks127.exe

thank you very much!

I take the  cardtricks program and I clikcked in "make bootable", after I put the two file.... Now   empty.dum is full of data-number....

It's ok?....and now :-X

Well, next steps are:

- copy empty.dum to your computer and give it a better name, like 'ixus700_sd500_100d.dum'
- if you're comfortable with your hex editor, you can remove the '00' bytes at the beginning
- upload the file to a free hosting service (here's one: zSHARE - Free Image, Video, Audio, Flash and File Hosting)
- make a new post in this topic: [DOWNLOAD LINKS] Firmware dumps available
be sure to mention camera and firmware version, and the link address to your dump file

- after that do as PhyrePhox advised in reply #3: read the threads he mentioned to get
the name(s) of people that actually ported an ixus 700 / sd500 and PM them to ask
  for assistance

good luck,

wim
