Why is there anti-spam image challenge FOR LOGGED-IN MEMBERS?

Can someone please explain the point of having anti-spam image challenges for logged in forum members? Why even require registration at all if you're going to have that? It's a colossal headache for every person who posts which could be solved permanently in about 30 seconds by just making it so that accounts of abusers get locked.

Also the puzzle thing is outrageous. Somehow the rest of the internet manages to get by with plain old letters instead of an entire video game.

Thanks for your input, I'll have a look into it.

Because I have made it so by default. Users with under 3 posts will see anti-spam challenges.

The Captcha system was replaced by Google's reCaptcha, hopefully it will provide an easier experience to new users.
