I have updated that patch and it's in reyalp's latest test builds. That's why you were able to report almost 400kB of free memory here.
If you're experiencing something unusual (instability or crashes), please report it.

I'm wondering whether this patch is worth committing.
I don't expect receiving a lot more feedback.
It does not seem to have any positive or negative influence on Razor512's problem. It does allow taking full quality JPEG images unlike previous official releases. I also believe that the approximately ~390kB free RAM (with no badpixel data loaded) is enough for most CHDK uses.

I'm inclined to add it, if we get people hitting out of memory errors, we can go back to exmem.

This is the same situation with the sx220, ca. 380 kB free RAM. I have no Problems with the standard CHDK applications and big scripts.
