Hi there all,

This is my first post and therefore apologies if I have put it in the wrong place.

I have just installed CHDK version: allbest, #51-390 on my ixus 850IS. All is working fine except I dont seem to be able to change the aperture value. Is there another build that can do this or can it just not be done on this camera??

Cheers

The Ixus line doesn't have an aperture. They use a ND filter. I don't know how it works exactly but that's why there is no aperture setting in the menu's.

pito is right, the small cameras dont have a real aperture, it's fake, by using an nd filter to simulate a stop of light.
i'm wondering if this fact isnt stated in the manual, i mean, do they have Custom or manual modes on the ixuses? do they offer you to change aperture there? but only two settings, right?

No real aperture?  That's interesting and valuable info.  And disappointing.

Is it only the Ixus line that lacks an iris?

The only way to do good time-lapse is to lock your focus, aperture, and shutter speed.  It looks as though these wouldn't be possible on an Ixus then, right?
