What was the source of this camera? If I remember right, the only other time we've seen a canon "beta" firmware in the wild was gray market canon display models or something like that.

Unfortunately, this firmware is not compatible with the existing builds. I'd be reluctant to add a port for something like this.

Edit:
If you paid anything close to retail price for it, I would suggest asking for an exchange or your money back

I think that beta firmware is a valid firmware.
I found an A2300 beta firmware some time ago, it was an original camera. The dump is available on dump repository but port was never published, because it is hard to find a camera with that firmware   ;)

Probably, it is possible to port the camera:
Code: [Select]
// Camera info:
//   DRYOS R52 (DRYOS version 2.3, release #0052)
//   Firmware Ver B1.00   // Found @ 0xff88eb10, "B1.00" @ 0xff88eb1d
//   Firmware build timestamp: Oct 11 2012 11:04:09
//   Canon PowerShot A2600

EDIT: Test version in attachment

Cams with prerelease fw certainly exist, but they are too rare and you don't normally get them from official sources. In this case, you can expect approximately a single user. Of course, there's no problem making such a port, it's just that the chance of getting feedback is much lower.

Note, however, that you must make a correct bin_comp_fix.h (by hand) or switch off the compatibility check (not recommended). The script that generates bin_compat.h is hardcoded for GM prefixed firmwares (it works for more than 98% of all ports).

Also, if it gets added to the autobuild, make sure having the letter at the other end of the version (b100 vs 100b etc) doesn't break anything. I don't know of anything off hand, but I haven't gone digging.
